1950 chevy PU wireing
I am helping a friend wire up a 1950 pu with original gauges but with 12 volt battery, I know you have to use a voltage reducer on the hot side of the guage. Do you need a voltage reducer on the other side of the guage too? to keep frome getting a 12volt feed back? We are using a new complete 21circuit wiring harness . Thanks Rich

Amp gauge doesn't use one.

You will need one reducer for the gas gauge on the power wire going to it. Like CR says you do not need one for the amp. gauge but you can't run a high powered alternator through it.

Uh my gas gauge pegged and died right after applying 12volt power. Nixon was in office at the time and must have been the reason.

I had to call my brother because I wanted to be sure my truck had no reducers and I was right, nothing. The gas gauge worked, the amp gauge worked because the 6 volt actually has higher amperage so it works fine! The Water temp was mechanically as I remember so it worked and so was the oil gauge that I know for sure was mechanical. The COEs had an electric water temp gauge, I have an NOS one.

Classic parts and no doubt the rest of the truck trinket vendors sells a 12V fuel gauge for AD trucks for about 60 bucks. http://www.classicparts.com/Gauges-O...oducts/845/2/0 spendy but that is one way.

I swear, I ran the stock gas gauge with 12 volt and never had a problem.

You should not have to use a reducer on a fuel gauge. The gauge only reads resistance to ground not voltage. Amp gauge no reducer. Heater or radio or anything with a motor or circuitry should have a reducers if your using 6v bulbs they need a reducer
