56 Firewall how much lip

Hello all, I'm in the process of smoothing my firewall. How far back on each side do I need to remove on the firewall lip? I know some is covered by inner fender.
Thanks!

Re: 56 Firewall how much lip

i took the flange down to just below the upper hinge bolt
the seam shows behind my 58 (different) hood hinge but not in the overall picture
had i gone lower there was a lot more work below the seam and wrinkles you see in the firewall pic

Re: 56 Firewall how much lip

Thanks so much!! That's exactly what I was looking for. Even better that's about where I stopped cutting! Yay! I'm removing the entire firewall and building one out of sheet metal. Couldn't remember what the inner fender covered.
Thanks again!
