Before I Drill (Mirror Mounting Question)
I'm about to drill the doors for mirrors on the 72 and I have a question about the locations. My 71 came with the small sport mirrors and I'm going to put them on the 72. I carefully measured the hole location on the 71 and was surprised to find that the driver side mirror is 1 inch further forward than the passenger side. I just need someone to confirm this before I start drilling.

Re: Before I Drill (Mirror Mounting Question)
Yes. My '71 shows exactly what you said. Driver side front hole is 7-1/4", rear holes are 11" from front of door. Passenger side front hole is 8-1/4", rear holes are 12" from front of door. I also did not know this.

Re: Before I Drill (Mirror Mounting Question)
You are correct. Use a step bit to drill your holes in fresh paint.

Re: Before I Drill (Mirror Mounting Question)
Good work. Did you use a step bit and did any of the paint chip off?

Re: Before I Drill (Mirror Mounting Question)
No paint chipped. I masked off the area and used drills to gradually get the holes sized. The one thing I did do was to run each drill bit in reverse to kinda of burn the new paint away and then, I forward the bits.

Re: Before I Drill (Mirror Mounting Question)
I just installed the passenger side with the same mirror. Are you able to adjust it in enough to actually see behind the truck? I used that same assembly manual location and I have to move my head over to the passenger side to see behind the truck. Good looking paint btw.
