I have a 72 3/4 ton 2wd with manual steering, and I bought a power box that came from a 4wd truck. The pitman arms look to be different. How can I make this work? Also, I don't have the brackets for the pump/resevoir, I have headers, so what should I be looking for when I get brackets?

Maybe I could use a pitman arm from a 73-87 3/4 ton 2wd with power steering? Someone please help me!

local auto-parts store should be able to help you out wiyh the pitman arm and ps pump, place a WTB on the parts board for the brackets

Sorry to burst your bubble.. But the 4WD steering box will not work on your 2wd.. the Internal sector shaft in the box itself and the pitman arm are totally different.. And not interchangable...
You can use a power steering box off any 1968 to 1980 2wd truck... (later than that will work too, But use O-rings on the hoses instead of flared fittings)
On the pump brackets you are searching for... It will depend on if you have the origonal short water pump and alternator brackets still installed, if so the easiest way is to find a 68 -72 truck with power steering... It will also depend on which pulley that is on the pump you have.. is the pulley flat and bolted on? Or pressed on?? Alighnment issues could arise...
There are quite a few variables and unfortunatley no one simple answer...

Also beware of power and non-power steering boxes. I believe the pitman is a bit different between those too, but I might be wrong.

well. dang, looks like I'm stuck with a 4wd power steering box now, guess I'll have to search for a 2wd box

the sector shafts are deffinatly different, the 4wd one being splined on only 1/4 of the way around the shaft, and it has a groove cut into it for the pinch bolt on the pitman arm

The splined end of the pitman arm is larger on the power steering box.

I would not be too upset. From what I have seen, 4WD power steering boxes sell for more than 2WD boxes. You should be able to sell what you have, get what you need and still have money in your pocket.

well, thats good news then! I got it for a fair price I think too, 100 cdn for the pump and box, I guess I'll put it up for sale in the paper
