Rocker replacement - HELP! - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Folks,

I'm starting to install the new floor pan pieces and something's got me stumped.

The PO had chopped the outside 2" off the floor pan so I don't have too much to go on. The "Chevy Assembly Manual" does have a few drawings, but nothing calling out this area in detail.

All the PO had at the bottom of the door is an outer rocker (still in good shape) and a flat inner rocker that was brazed to the outer at the bottom. There was about a 1/2" space left at the top of the outer rocker where the inner didn't meet it (don't know why.)
I drew this crude diagram and have the question: If the new floor pan reaches and is welded to the bottom of the outer rocker, WHERE DOES THE INNER ROCKER PIECE GO?

It seems like overkill to have both floor pan and inner rocker in place, to me.

Any hints would help here!

The inner rocker is the flat piece between your spot weld arrows. The floor replacement panel will have the inner rocker on it, or you can get just the inner rocker by itself.

Maybe some of the aftermarket panels would work this way, but the ones I got from Goodmark would have been a nightmare. Mine were, but after hours of thinking and figuring I got things to work and I added an extra piece of steel in too. I want the rust to have to work harder and longer to ruin my work.
