Steering Issues
Ok, so every time I turn on my 59 Apache with a Mustang II front suspension the steering turn itself to the right, I can't figure out what the heck is going on. I have bought the flow control valve, hoses are in their right place. can anyone offer any help?

If it does this parked it must still have too much pressure if there is no bind in column. What pump , and what valve do you have? Is it 70's style Chevy pump? Inside where the high pressure hose mounts to the pump there is a spring and piston set up. I have had the piston stick in a brand new pump before. If it sticks you will have high pressure. You can take off the hose and the adapter it bolts to and you can push in there to see if it is free or stuck.

Here are the specs for the pump and valve:
Valve: Mustang II Power Steering Flow Valve for GM Pump, 2 GPM. Pump: has a 3/8" hose barb for return line and a female 5/8"-18 inverted flare fitting for the high-pressure outlet. Equivalent to original pump found on: 1970-74 Camaro/Firebird 1970-74 Nova 1970-74 Chevelle/Malibu 1970-74 Monte Carlo All Speedway Motor parts. |

like PDW says, ensure the column is free turning with no tight spots because that can hold the shaft against the steering valve and cause it to turn the wheels.
check the pump pressure and compare to what the rack was built for so, for more info, it turns the wheels while driving, while on stands or while parked running? |

I'd have to go out and look at one of my MIi racks out back but ponder if you can actually reverse the hoses.

I fought a couple of the Ford power steering units that took the place of the drag link on the linkage back years ago and who ever had rebuilt the unit had got the adjustment on the valving right. One my fault one that someone else had done. I'm thinking that is the issue here. The valving inside the rack might be out of adjustment and I have no idea of how to adjust it on that rack.

Looking at this all Ford racks are not the same. http://my.cardone.com/techdocs/PT%2022-0007.pdf
One model is reverse from the other two. It also seems that some models have different size pressure and return fittings that make life easy while others as mentioned in that link have the same size pressure and return line fittings. I've never paid much attention to the two power racks I have out back that are from a MII and a Mercury Bobcat wagon but I'll see if I can check. I am not finding anything about the internal hydraulics of the power racks though.

typically you convert a mustII rack to AN fittings, it's easy to reverse the lines
