Wheel Backspacing/Size Questions - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Ok, now that I've got my truck bagged, I'm looking for some new rollers. I'm trying to decide beween 17, 18 or 20's and dont know what I need for backspacing. There is no drop spindles or c-notch out back. Also, what size tires should I run? I dont want rubber bands, but also not too much sidewall. Any help would be greatly appreciated. By the way, the truck is a 72' with 5x5 bolt pattern and front discs/stock 12 bolt rearend.

I beleive the offset on a 8inch rim will be 4.5" inches. You could run 245-40-20. they still ahve a good amount of side wall. or 255-50-17, or 255-45-18. All bout the same size in overall height.

Would that offset be for both the front and rear? I would probably be getting some 18's or 20's for sure. Any suggestions on what brand tires to look at?

Personally, I don't like the looks of 18s-20s on these trucks. The 20's make the 18's look too small and the 18's make the 20's look to big (if that make sense). Just my $0.02. "It's all about the look you want."

So I went with 18's all around. I think 18s-19s would be the perfect combination, but of course 19s aren't available in may styles/sizes.

I have 18x8's with 4.5" b.s. up front and 18x9.5's with 5.25" b.s. in the rear. Front tires are 255/45/18 and the rears are 285/40/18. I wanted the front and rear sidewalls to be the same height and those sizes were as close as I could get. With those wheel tire combinations, the 4.5" and 5.25" b.s. measurements are the least I'd go. I could have gone with a 5.5" b.s in the rear, but wanted them as far out as possible while still tucking when the bags were dumped. Like I tell everyone who asks about my wheels/tires..... MAKE YOUR OWN MEASUREMENTS BEFORE YOU BUY.... DON'T JUST RELY ON WHAT I USED!

As for tires, I found the Dunlop SP Sport 9000's to be the best deal and they have a cool tread pattern

I just bougt some 245 40 20's from tire rack at $235. They are BFG.
