5.3 crack in block
Pulled my heads tonight to do head gaskets and snoop around a bit and of course found a crack.
Funny thing is this motor came in a truck already running and I was told it was a 6.0 but I quickly realized it wasn't once I got it out of the truck. The seller was pretty cool and refunded me the cost of a replacement so I am happy. The question is do I pick up a real 6.0 motor locally for 7-800 or just get a 5.3 and move along? Also if I go to a 6.0 do I need the ECU from that motor? I have a PSI harness already ran I would like to not have to mess with any wiring if possible - if that means 5.3 then I will stick with the 5.3. Thanks Last edited by Jferrante; 02-08-2018 at 08:53 PM. |

Re: 5.3 crack in block
5.3 or the lm7 is my favorite of cousre. but if you can get a good deal on a 6.0 variant, lq4 or lq9 i say pull the trigger.

Re: 5.3 crack in block
You will still have to get ecm vats removed whether its a 5.3 or 6.0. But you can use 5.3 ecm with the 6.0 , You will just need some fine tuning , but really need a tune regardless of which engine you decide to use.

Re: 5.3 crack in block
Got it - the 5.3 with the crack was already in the truck and running right before I pulled it so I am guessing it was tuned prior. I wanted to clarify if I got a 6.0 without an ECM would I be able to get it in and go with the 5.3 ECM which it looks like is a yes.
