Steering Column drop mount for 47-54 pictures.
Folks,
I'm looking at purchasing a 30" tilt floor shift Ididit column. https://www.speedwaymotors.com/Ididi...ain,38002.html Then I would add the 2.5' column drop mount. https://www.speedwaymotors.com/Ididi...Hole,9633.html Now what I'm looking for is pictures of this kind of column drop installed in 47-54 trucks. I cant seem to find any pictures with it installed or similar drop mount. I don't know what kind/type of steering wheel I've decided on yet but also if that will make a difference in the type of mount I will purchase. Or if should be looking for something like this instead? http://www.flamingriver.com/index.ph.../s0017/FR20114 Any help with pictures would be appreciated. Truck has Chevy 350 with a TCI MII front clip. Last edited by NeoJuice; 02-09-2018 at 02:57 PM. |

This is a 2.5” drop and a 32” column

Thank you upon1. Do you have pictures of the mounting spot you used under the dash? I just ordered a wack load of parts from speedway yesterday.

Re: Steering Column drop mount for 47-54 pictures.
I tried to find a good picture of mine, but I couldn't. So I used my mad paint skills to draw up the plans. Not saying I did it right or wrong. I basically just bent some 1/8" plate into a "C"-ish shape, to hit the lower lip of the dash, and that factory dash brace. If I remember right, because of the movement of the column from slightly offset, to centering b/t the gauges, the bracket I made is wider than it would need to be on one side.

Disregard the welded nut part. I used the same column bracket as you...there are just holes in the steel for the studs to pass through. I tighten the nut on top.

b-mac & upon-1 thank you for the awesome pictures. That helps a TON and hopefully others on the forum because I searched and searched with little results.
I took some pictures of my column last night as well so you can see what I'm working with. Soon it will be out with the old and in with the new ididit column. Dont mind the wiring mess LOL. |

It’ll be just like Christmas again! I can get a better picture later today it goes in the same spot as the factory column mount. Just have to adjust the holes on the dash a bit.

My truck currently has a s10 style GM column in it but it's garbage and it has a weird top column mount to the dash. I want to do it properly that is why I ordered all the parts and the ididnt column. These are the only two pictures i have of the old column in the truck. Re: Steering Column drop mount for 47-54 pictures.
So the green line bracket is there already attached to the OEM bracket? or do I have to make that out of a piece of steel? or would there be enough room on the edge of the dash to attach it to? if I recall the OEM bracket is up there a little bit out of the way and with only a 2.5" drop it might not hang down enough to line up properly between the guages.
Thanks for all the info guys. |

I do think most people just bolt to/through the dash lip. I didn't like seeing that much of the column mount, and it didn't feel strong enough. This fabbed bracket is probably a 2.5" drop. I made it a little shy of that, which puts the cylinder part of my column within a 1/16th" of the bottom of the dash. Nice and tight and clean. |

Re: Steering Column drop mount for 47-54 pictures.
ClevsChev,
I'm ripping out the s10 column that's currently in my truck (previous owner installed it). My speedway order arrived and I'm very happy. The quality of the Ididit column is amazing, I ordered the 30" as people suggested. Now I just need to finish welding holes up in my floor before I can get it installed. I'm glad I spent the extra cash on the column. It's quality, USA made (bonus) and has some good weight to it as well. I was going to order a generic steering column from speedway but I decided not to risk it. I knew about he Unsafe_Aftermarket_Steering_Columns.pdf & then after reading this thread I decided not to risk my life on it. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...368649&page=14 I will keep the thread updated as I proceed ahead. |

Re: Steering Column drop mount for 47-54 pictures.
Ok so I'm going to have to make that bracket between the dash and the OEM bracket.
How in the hell did you bend 1/8" steel lol. That picture of your column looks perfect! I want mine to look nice and clean like that and tucked up tight and sturdy. If you could snap another picture that would be awesome. Thank you so much b-mac. |

Re: Steering Column drop mount for 47-54 pictures.
A bench vise and two crescent wrenches...Not as hard as you might think.
I'll snap a couple pics when I get home. The column is back out now, so you'll get a good look. |
