72 C10 Long Bed to Shorty LS Swap
Well i finally bought the truck I've been drooling over since i was a kid, a 1972 C10 long box, in March of 2017. Truck was a 1 owner truck from Montana where I live now. Had no motor or transmission. Got the truck for $500. I have always loved the 67-72 C10's and thanks to some influence from my wife I went on a road trip and got the truck. Since I have owned it I have converted the long box to a short box, added power steering, put in an LS 5.3 out of a 2004 Suburban, 4L60E tranny, new inner rockers, outer rockers, cab corners, floor boards, inner fenders, outside fenders, new box, new front and rear bumpers, Dakota Digital VHX guages, new tilt steering column, modified leather seat out of a 2006 Ford F150 truck (I know it has a ford part in it lol ) rewired most the truck, new factory rally wheels and tires, all LED lights, rear mount gas tank, ....Im sure theres a ton of stuff I'm missing. Now I'm on to getting truck ready for paint. This truck puts the biggest smile on my face when I drive it. I love the LS motor, its no race truck but it definitely gets up and goes when I step on it. Thanks to this forum and everyone on it for motivating me to do my own build. This will not be a show truck by any means and still has a long way to go. The body work has been the hardest part and Ive learned a lot as I go. Just thought Id share some pics with you all. The awesome part is, I sold the long box for $600 so it paid for my truck and gas money to go and pick it up
Thanks for looking. |

Making a fuel tank with a sump. Not the prettiest design but I bent some sheetmetal at work and soldered it all together. Work good.

Looking Good—- are those aftermarket fenders? How well did they line up with the original body parts?

Re: 72 C10 Long Bed to Shorty LS Swap
Yes they are after market. They were kind of a pain in the but, took a lot of finesse to get them to line up. Still have some mock up work to do. Working on doors now, so ill see how everything aligns once i get those straightened up.

Re: 72 C10 Long Bed to Shorty LS Swap
After getting this trucked tuned, its a whole new animal. What a difference live tuning while driving it around can do. Those tunes people buy where they send there ECM to someone is a joke. Ask me how I know Have driven truck about a 100 miles and she runs nice. Super happy with how its turning out. Now its time to take it all back apart and get it ready for paint. Not my favorite thing to do, but I can't wait. Still can't decide what paint scheme I want to go. I love the two tone orange and white. This truck was originally medium red. Not sure If i want it red.....?

Re: 72 C10 Long Bed to Shorty LS Swap
Nice job.....I remember seeing your truck on Craigslist, what a transformation. I'm in Billings quite a bit. Get all my sheet metal from Eric. I'd like to see the truck in person one day. Looks like you moved through the project relatively quick.

Re: 72 C10 Long Bed to Shorty LS Swap
With the help of a friend we got the wiring sorted out. Something I was not too familiar with when we started. It was kind of fun. I enjoy doing that kind of stuff.
