Overflow tank

I’m trying to tie up the loose ends of my ls swap and wasn’t sure if a rad overflow was really needed? I’m using a champion rad and there isn’t a ton of space under the hood of a ‘54. Sorry about the sideways pic.

Re: Overflow tank

Overflow tanks are not really needed, but may be required if you want to take it to the track or autocross it or something. Otherwise just don't fill the radiator all the way up so the coolant has room to expand just like in the old days. If you do overfill it, it will just puke out what it cant hold, then should be fine.

Re: Overflow tank

I used one of these . It is an expansion tank that allows the fluid to travel back and forth to keep the radiator full . I prefer to do this for max cooling . I mounted it in front of the core support behind the grill .

There is so many sizes and shapes I am sure you could find something to work . Also you can spend as much or as little as you want . They will do the same thing .
