car alternators - mounted on truck brackets
has anyone come up with a mounting solution, for putting a car alternator (GTO or corvette) on the truck accessory bracket (up high driver side) ?
the truck alts are shorter (axially) and the bolt hole locations are different. I'm considering cutting off the ears from the cast alum. truck bracket, and TIG welding some new mounting points to it so the car alt can mount. seeing how most everything has been done before...I figure I would ask first before I start hacking. backstory: I'm in a spot using a GTO harness/computer and need to use the GTO alternator. mounting it down low with GTO brackets hits the frame hard - I believe but have not mocked it up yet. The bigger problem seems it hits the motor mounts due to axial depth. I'd like to stick with truck pulley spacing and accessories. I have both truck and GTO bracketry/pumps/crank pulley to play with.

Re: car alternators - mounted on truck brackets
Depending on what you have you might be able to change the plug in order to work with the alternator you want. You might be farther ahead to research if that can be done instead.
Another option is to cut the frame and make the alternator you want fit, I have a Holley bracket that didnt fit, I cut a half inch off of the frame and never looked back. If the GTO is the same as the LS1 Camaro then it should fit as I think I have seen trucks with that accessory drive setup. |

Re: car alternators - mounted on truck brackets
have GTO harness, and GTO alt. No plug to change
I may fit up the GTO alt in the factory location, if a small frame notch needed that would be ok. But it doesn't look like much room right now. Thanks
