Front Axle Identification chevy 3100

Can anybody advise me how I can tell from the front axle and spindles only ( no drums or rotors present)whether I have a 3100 (1/2 ton) or 3600 (3/4 ton) axle on my truck.
I need to buy a set of rotors but It looks as though the front axle has been swapped before I bought it. Hopefully for another 3100 truck axle.
My truck is a 1952 3100 pickup.
Any help would be really appreciated.

Howdy,

One way to tell is that 3/4 ton trucks have more robust steering arms.

Measure the diameter of the spindle. The 53-59 3600 trucks used a 1.49” inner bearing. The 47-52 used a 1.4” bearing

Scroll down to page 128 and it gives the differences between the axle. https://www.gmheritagecenter.com/doc...olet-Truck.pdf

After seeing that you should be able to tell with a quick tape measure check.

Re: Front Axle Identification chevy 3100

I learned something when I looked that up. I knew that there was a difference in the axles but didn't know what the exact difference was.
