Re: Full reproduction short bed kits

I just purchased one from SOKY classics well not a kit but a complete shortbed in individual pieces. I wanted a wood floor, 16” wheel tubs and the custom sides without stake pockets, but a lettered tailgate. And well that kit doesn’t exist. What I can say so far since the bed is only 3/4 together.

They were great to deal with

I only paid around $300 or so more than a kit and the wide wheel tubs are probably most of that difference.

Everything came very well packed on the pallet with no damage.

All of the pieces seem to be factory thickness and the stampings are crisp.

I have the front panel bedsides and rear sill assembled and everything fit fine.

Overall I am happy with the price and quality.

The closer the vendor the better, for shipping. But SOKY is the vendor side of the manufacturer that makes them (Woodall Ind). The beds come out fantastic. Might have to wallow out a hole or two, but fit and finish is excellent

Re: Full reproduction short bed kits

I re-did a short bed once. I wanted to be "stock" so I went with yellow pine and plain steel. I painted the wood on all six sides with tow coats of primer, and three coats of sating black enamel. Even so, the wood didn't hold up all the long Started to show some problems after 3-4 years, and was pretty well shot in 8-10 years. I think Oak would have done better, even though not "original". The metal held up well, but if one is departing from stock with the wood, SS would hold up even better.

You looking to do a steel or wood floor? It’s possible to cut down a steel lwb floor, then all you’ll need is reproduction bedsides.

The Brothers kit is great, just read up on the cab support measurements being about 1/2 inch off. There’s a work-around described somewhere.

Not sure but probably steel.. hadn’t considered cutting the floor I’ll look into that. I need a new front panel new tubs and probably a new tailgate too

AMD repro bed sides. GM headboard and NOS GM gate. Wood floor bed. Came out really nice, the quality is near factory. Didn't have to adjust holes. The fit is nice thrrough the whole bed.
