Shock Mounting on Rear Driver's Side (K5)
I've ran into another issue with installing my new bilstien 4600's. I've got three out out of four of them installed, but the rear driver's side shock has a really tough mounting set-up right next to the gas tank where is get a ratchet or wrench in there to get it off. Even if I were to get it off, I don't know how I'd get the new one on, since the bilstiens come with the stud already inserted through the eyelet of the shock. Could I cut a whole near the original; spot in the frame, somewhere more accessible to mount the new shock? Any Ideas?

HmmmI don't know.
But I'm fixin to have to deal with it. I took the 4' lift off the front of my M1009 & now gotta do the rear. It has longer shocks on it that I'm removing. I'll look on mine tomorrow after Church & see what I come up with! |

Sounds good, Andy. Please let me know what you find, it'd be a great help!

Can't you get that old stud off and then install the new one provided by Bilstein? Once the stud is on, then install the shock. It might be tight but I don't recall having to do anything special to get the new shocks on.....

Can you get a ratchet wrench in there somehow?

Man I forgot all about helping you- sorry Bud!
Anyway I went out & looked at my M1009 & my LR shock mounts to an angle bracket on top of the frame way above the fuel tank. It's no problem at all to get a wrench on the inside to hold the stud nut. What year is your k5? My M1009 is an '85 & I got an '88 up the barn. |
