Fuel Sending Unit Headache
Just pulled my sending unit (stock tank) after loosing fuel pressure. The filter sock didn't come with it! It separated at the end of the tube and took the metal washer looking thing with it. I can see it so no worries on fishing it out. I am guessing the the Ethanol in my local gas is the culprit???
So heres my question: Since I have an external gas filter (after the pump), can I just put the sender back in without that filter sleeve? I think Im going to be repeating this drill each winter if I just replace the unit. #F_Ethanol |

Re: Fuel Sending Unit Headache
If you are confident it that you won't ever suck up anything large enough to damage the pumps diaphragm. If not then a new sock or a 100 micron filter before the pump is a good idea.

Re: Fuel Sending Unit Headache
I'd be afraid it might suck op some little flakes of rust or something foreign that got in the tank and plug the line before the filter.
I got my new sending unit from PartsGeek.com for $34.00 and it is really nice. https://www.partsgeek.com/catalog/19...l#immersedview

I'd keep the in-tank filter too...
Do they not allow ethanol-free gas to be sold in Cali? I'm lucky, I guess, because there are three gas stations within minutes of my house that have multiple ethanol-free pumps. I just thought that was the same everywhere. If you can find it, I think it's worth buying.

Re: Fuel Sending Unit Headache
Since I fished out the filter... I'm thinking good ol JB weld will get me back on the road.
I looked at a website that claims to list all stations that have Ethanol free gas and the closest one is 300 miles away. Seems strange I couldn't get it at an airport or a commercial gas station. There is even a station in my town that sells 104 ($7.00 gal) for the local crotch rocket crowd. Please no advice to move out of Cali, been here for 50+ years and yes it pretty much sucks these days but family first. |

Re: Fuel Sending Unit Headache
You won't get that from me. Lack of ethanol-free fuel would be a silly reason to move from your home! And California is a beautiful state, I've spent quite a bit of time there.

Re: Fuel Sending Unit Headache
I'm in Maine, closest gas station with non-ethanol is in NH.
