Generator to Alternator convertion

Ok, Iam thinking of converting the generator to an alternator with a built in voltage regulator. Anyone know the type or model number of an alternator I can purchase? I found a mounting kit on line so mounting shouldn't be a problem.

I have my old alternator and wiring from my 59, ill get you some parts numbers off it tonight. Worked for many years and never had an issue out of it. Great set up. Thinking it was 10SI but can't remember.

Cant say I ever had an issue with the generator ether, I just wanted more power for my E fans.

What do you have installed for electrical accessories? A factory alternator for a '90 Toronado used to be a decent choice.

most alternators are 100 or bigger, the old generator maxed out less than 30 amps
i recommend you not use the generator wiring and amp gauge when installing an alternator
not sure if your truck has been rewired or not, if not just run a #6 or 8 ga wire from the charge stud directly to the battery
bypass the amp gauge in the dash cluster, it maxes out at 30 amps

ogre is a fan of one wire alternators, have used them for 30 years with much success
i like the look of 1 wire out of the alternator, no excite or sense wires in the way

Absolutely- DO NOT run through your amp gauge, or you will be starting on a new project the HARD way!
