Front tires "scrub" when turning after disc brake conversion
Hi all, I have just completed a front end disc brake conversion on my 1970 c10 using classic performance front end steering and spindle kit.(2/12" drop). It has changed the angle of the tires when i turn into or have to turn sharp to back into spaces. the tires "scrub" i guess i could call it they dont roll smooth anymore and it's quite annoying as when they are doing this it creates resistance to the rolling. How can i fix this? I have had it aligned and i saw the specs they are good and there is no alignment issue while going down the road. Any help would be appreciated it's really bothering me.

Re: Front tires "scrub" when turning after disc brake conversion
Are the tires scrubbing the fender lip or the inner wheel Well?

No, the tires are not touching anything but the ground, it's just that the tires now angle when turning Last edited by elorenzof; 10-20-2018 at 10:58 AM. Reason: Better response |

Have a look at the inside lip of the wheels. They may be rubbing the lower control arm when turned. Common issue with drop spindles and 15” wheels. Easy fix.

Re: Front tires "scrub" when turning after disc brake conversion
If upon inspection you see evidence of the wheel rubbing the lower control arm when turned it usually will contact the outer lip area around the lower ball joint. This is a common issue for us using stock offset 8x15" wheels with lowered spindles. Many of us have gained the needed clearance by grinding the lip in that area back a couple of inches. If the wheel is rubbing there will be witness marks on the wheel and control arm. You may be able to add a 1/4" wheel spacer to get enough clearance. Many of us chose to grind the lca.
Look it over good first and see if this is the case with yours then use the forum search button to see numerous threads on it.

Tire scrub, not rub! Clearly you’ve changed your ‘Ackerman’! Look here for info on that. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acke...ering_geometry Wider tires and offset spindles will do that. |
