clutch swap??
I am doing a body swap, and need to know what to do to swap the clutch assm. from a 4 speed cab into a automatic cab?

Cut a hole for the shifter???? I do not recall any difference's in the auto cab's and manual cab's ( I do not think there is a auto cab and manual cab) ... There is only a low hump and a high hump that is removable as far as I know?

I guess i need to clarify,
I want to swap the clutch assembly from under the dash of one cab to under the dash of a (now) automatic cab. Do i just unbolt it, or is there a trick? thanks david

O.k that make's sense. I am not 100% sure but I think they are the same pedal assembely just one with a clutch pedal. Should just be able to take out just the clutch pedal and swap it into the hole in an automatic assembley... Someone please correct me if I am wrong..

U is correct----the brake assembly does not need to be swapped out. Just carefully and slowely take the clutch pedal out of the old cab and install it into the new one. Becareful not to bugger up the shaft or the plastic sleves that go on the pivot shaft. Lube accordingly. Not a big job but a pain in that you got to get kind of kaddywhampas to remove and reinstall. Job a lot easier if you have the seats out of the cabs and the dash cluster out so you can see what you are doing.

I've did that too, I took out the whole deal and put in the one from the 4 speed.

Do NOT try to pull the clutch pedal from the pedal hanger if it is the heavy-duty version. Identifier: the heavy duty housing has a VERY hefty spring that is BOLTED to the lower part of the clutch pedal arm and BOLTED to a bracket on TOP of the pedal hanger.
Remove the hanger as a whole with both pedals attached and swap it into the new cab. It requires unbolting your master cylinder (but not removing it) and the bolts that connect the hanger to the back of the dash. Also, remember to unhook the brake light switch harness connector. After you unhook the through-the-firewall clutch rod, KEEP YOUR HANDS AWAY FROM THE LEVER IT WAS ATTACHED TO. When I tried to pull that lever (in an attempt to swap the clutch pedal from one cab to another), the heavy spring tripped, and there went part of my finger. After six months, it is still not fully healed (they were only able to sew back together the pieces I took them :-/ ). Do NOT try to unbolt that spring while under the dash: it is under a LOT of tension. If you must remove it, put the hanger on the workbench and figure a way to keep the spring under tension and to let it off slowly after removing a bolt. None of these issues applies to the lighter duty pedal hanger.

Assuming the cabs are stripped (no column, guage cluster, etc) it would be easiest to swap the entire assembly - brake and clutch pedal from your donor - than to swap just the clutch pedal out. It's 4 nuts on the booster bracket, one nut/bolt on the booster rod, and one bolt up behind the cluster. My 2 cents

Hello. I saw your post about the clutch pedal swap. My clutch pedal is a lot higher than my brake pedal, is this normal for a 1972 4x4.
