4l80 questions..
I have a 91 4wd burb than I'm scrapping out....the 4l80 is supposed to be good but has 155k mile on it...I was told these early 4l80s didn't have a controller...but I'm thinking there is something...if so is the controller worth pulling?....and where is it?...all im gonna do is throw the trans on craigslist....I've also been told the early 4l80s are somewhat desirable...but it better sell quick or it's on its way to the scrapyard...

Re: 4l80 questions..
4l80-e is only electric controlled with a computer from gm factory .
if its a gas engine with tbi fuel injection its done with the tbi computer . if its a 6.2/6.5 diesel then there was a stand alone computer . i wouldnt scrap it . check yor local trans guys they might give you some good cash for it as a core / rebuild able unit .

Re: 4l80 questions..
Are you parting the Suburban? If so, I'd be interested in the speedo cluster...

Re: 4l80 questions..
the earlier 80's had a few differences in wiring, but the newer stuff swaps in iirc. You're harness will most likely be setup for the ~97+ style wiring if you had one built.

Re: 4l80 questions..
Brew ...i am only going to try to sell it..i have no plans to use it
Eric..I did pull the cluster..I have no idea if it works....the p.o. said it did...he said everything worked when he pulled the engine to rebuild..he couldn't finish it due to illness... I was gonna save the bezel as well but it has a crack and a broke corner by the steering wheel...

Re: 4l80 questions..
All I would need is the cluster, the bezel isnt a big deal to me.
