79 rear end into 65?

So I've got a line on a 79 1/2 ton that I plan to scavenge the front suspension, etc., from but I'm tossing around the idea of using the rear end, especially if it has a better ratio. I understand it will be 3/4" wider on each side. I can manage to mount the pads for the trailing arms and maintain the proper pinion angle but what do I do to mount a panhard rod?

Re: 79 rear end into 65?

Are you planning on dropping it? and how much?
You can go aftermarket like POL - https://www.performanceonline.com/60...pension-parts/
A 65/66 will have a better frame mount for the panhard bar IMO for clearance if your dropping it along with the POL bar.
There is one other company I used previously, they make a great product but it hits the frame on the P-side when dropped: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...1&postcount=31

Only a 3 to 4” drop with Jeep coils.

And if you dont plan on slamming it, you just cut the old mount off the original and weld it on to the replacement.

The original mount is part of the original centre sections casting.

https://search.yahoo.com/search?p=+3...p=mss&ei=UTF-8 You could try one of these. I'm not saying these will work but you could call and ask. Seems like an easy alternative. https://www.superchargedmotorsports....1ebc1a044d5ad8

Re: 79 rear end into 65?

Right, i thought that started in '66. Perhaps you can salvage one from somewhere. I have managed to do that before once or twice. Anybody who is switching to something more "high tech" would have no use for the pre '65 tube mount panhard mount tower.
