Has Anybody Purchased a New Steel Replacement Hood for their '64-'66???

I would like to know if anyone has purchased a NEW hood for their 64-66 C-10.
If so, from where? and how was the experience?
I want to buy one, and I realize that some work may be needed to obtain a good fit, but I already plan on welding up the seams anyways.
Please feel free to comment with experience and/or opinions!

I appreciate your comment, but I didn't quite understand the last part of it.
Can you elaborate?
Do you know where I can look for the thread?

Pretty sure "calvent" was a typo or iPhone auto correct. I'm sure he means "cowl vent."

Oh, Thanks!
I think that I get it now!
Thanks for the help guys!
I would still really know who makes or supplies the best hood though!
Or, does everybody just sell the same hood?

There are only a couple overseas manufacturers of aftermarket replacement body parts. I would imagine the hood is made/marketed by Key Parts/Tri Plus, but I could be wrong?

I was involved in one thread about the new hoods. At the time I would have bought two (had the money) but the guy at Nsanerodz (I think) would not post a good picture to show how well they lined up. He either took a low shot or one where the hood was up. You could not tell how well they lined up with the cowl, so I did not buy. (Bare in mind that not many companies will stock them- he wouldn't at the time). So I bought a used one for my 66 project that I am about to get to work on. While I am using him as who I have dealt with, I am not trying to pick on Nsanerodz- probably a good guy, I don't know.

Would really love to see a repro on a truck, though.

I saw some of the pictures he posted on here of his Front fenders and how well they fit Like his was better than anybody’s but did the same thing as with the hood never a good shot or after he had worked on it and filled the gap‘s with seem sealer the best part was when he left the LMC cartons in the photo LMAO I think a lot of people realize that I don’t see them on here anymore

I believe he meant

“ only thing it has to line up against is the cowl vent”

My suggestion is to find a retailer close to you, go look at what they have in stock. If you decide to order, look that dude over real well, take measurements of a stock hood with you to compare. Good luck!!

Ha!
I wish it were that simple!
It appears that everyone (Brothers, Classic, and most likely LMC) gets these hoods from Auto Metal Direct in GA. so, I can't just run over there and look one over so easily. But everything that I have read in different forums state that their quality levels are superior to the rest of the market. I was just really interested to see if anyone on our forum had any personal experience.
Has anyone used any replacement parts from AMD? (Auto Metal Direct)

Re: Has Anybody Purchased a New Steel Replacement Hood for their '64-'66???

Well Guys!!!
I pulled the trigger and ordered a new hood from Auto Metal Direct....The company that seems to be the Supplier/Importer of what appears to be the hood that everybody offers for the 62-66 pickups.
I figured that I would just order it from them directly, rather than ordering it from someone else and getting a hood that has been shipped all over the place before finally getting to me.
I will keep everybody posted on my experience with this endeavor...

Ha-Ha-Ha!!!
Well, I must have gotten the last one!
I checked the tracking info on Friday, and It said that it had been delivered already....
I had previously informed ALL of the employees in the shipping area of the shop to NOT sign for this package, and to come get me to inspect and sign for it, so I knew that it couldn't be delivered already......

Then I saw this box in the shipping dock!

With this gaping hole in it!!

I was instantly furious that somebody signed for this item, and I was immediately on the phone to see what I might be able to do about it!!!
I already knew that I wouldn't have any recourse, but I thought it was worth a try....
It drove me crazy all day long, as I was waiting on a response from the shipping company before opening the package.

It turns out that the puncture hole in the box was to the underside of the hood. Had it been on the opposite side of the box, the hood would have definitely been damaged.

Here are some pics upon inspection...

Needless to say, I have looked it over really good, and I am impressed with how straight and flat that this thing looks!!!
The hood will get some finishing touches during the next few weeks/months, but I will probably move the progress to my build thread soon.

Glad to hear that you received the hood undamaged. That could have been bad, had that damage to the box been on the other side. Upon your initial inspection, how does the seam across the front look?

Wow, that's pretty. Wish that was available when I got my hood. I had to get the upper and lower front sections from LMC and have them replaced. Would have been lots of money ahead buying that believe me. You scored.

I am soooo glad that I did't have to deal with a messed-up hood! I already bought one used hood that didn't turn out to be what I was looking for!...I didn't need a second fail!
The seam along the front looked as good as the O.E. hood seam. I don't have any pics, but I was impressed with the quality level....If that's what you like.
I really don't care for the seam, and have already started the process of welding it up!...More to come on that!

I totally understand! I didn't want another hood to fix! I just wanted a hood that matched the quality level of the rest of the truck!

I realize that you purchased the hood from LMC, but who made it?
Was there a logo on the box?...Just curious.
The hood looks great BTW!!!
