Drug home a pretty neat 72 K10 yesterday
I told myself i wasnt going to buy anymore trucks but when they land in your lap for a great price you cant pass it up! My brother in law called me saturday afternoon and said the owner of this truck was ready to let it go for cheap. He wasnt going to try and craigslist it so he offered it to me first. So sunday morning i picked up my dad and we headed to Nunn, CO about 1.5 hrs north of where i live. I had seen the truck before but decided to pass because it was a little too rough for what he was asking. Anyway, its a 1972 K10 Custom Deluxe that was originally purchased by an oil drilling company in Bismarck, ND. My first truck i have ever owned that came with the protecto plate. Pretty cool. It runs and drives but not good. I am going to get it running and driving decent and leave the body alone. It has lots of "character".

Very cool, I'd drag it home too, even though it would violate my New Year's resolution...

565 is a pretty unusual paint combo. That’s a really cool truck! And it’s a K on top of it all!

My first truck had the Protecto plate, so I know what that is! That's a character alright.
BTW: Your title "drug home" always makes me think of the "Rehab" topic, something my town was having a problem with until they got on the ball.

Re: Drug home a pretty neat 72 K10 yesterday
Thanks for the compliments. I was originally buying it to sell because it was most likely headed to a junk yard if i didnt take it. But im kinda fallin in love with it already. Taking the original wheels to have the tires removed and then off to sandblast and powder coat. I'm kinda torn between doing them black or white. I'm leaning towards white, i have ordered a new front bumper which will be powder coated white too. i will try to update this thread with my plans. It may end up for sale on the forum. I will not craigslist it.

I vote for white on the wheels. It looks clean

Re: Drug home a pretty neat 72 K10 yesterday
I agree. the white looks much cleaner. The only reason i might do them black is to match the roof. I just dont like the look of black wheels.

Not sure how many I've seen with the heavy duty battery option...I wonder what the difference was between HD and standard??? There won't be any problems with selling this!!! IF...... |

Re: Drug home a pretty neat 72 K10 yesterday
Had the original wheels blasted and painted. Put a new set of 31 10.50 R15 rubber on. Now all i need are some caps. Finally got my new front bumper yesterday. I will paint it and the brush guard and hopefully get it installed this weekend. On a side note - was taking it on a test drive to see how the tires felt and how the engine was, wouldnt ya know, started rod knocking after it warmed up. DAMN IT! So much for the "rebuilt" engine the guy told me it had. Should have known better. Oh well. I will pull it out and do a minor refresh.

Re: Drug home a pretty neat 72 K10 yesterday
bummer on the knock, that's a horrible feeling.. BUT, you sure found a nice truck, congrats. Get that puppy rebuilt and enjoy! I'd stay capless on the wheels too, they look great. Or not - would look great WITH PO3 caps too.

Re: Drug home a pretty neat 72 K10 yesterday
I agree no hubs as well. I think it would have looked good with black steelies as well--mine came to the original owner with black steel wheels and, per the factory build sheet, no hub caps. I really like the color combo of your rig. I don't think too many K20s or any trucks of the 67-72 vintage came with that color combo--pretty unique to say the least! mt

Re: Drug home a pretty neat 72 K10 yesterday
I ended up picking it up! I still have not drilled your hubcaps for the Blazer. I plan on putting some 15x8 Steelies on this one and putting it around until all the replacement sheetmetal is collected. Austin has been a real pleasure to work with and I couldnt be happier with the transaction. Truck should be here sometime this weekend.
