HO52 Rear Disc Brake Conversion Accomplished By Anyone?
Am considering one of the 2 kits at the below links and am wondering if anyone else has performed this upgrade yet. Thanks if anyone can provide your experience/opinion with this.

I did a conversion but I pieced it together myself. The hardest part was rigging up brackets for a parking brake cable setup. Details are in my get driveable thread (see link below). Those kits look decent priced.

Re: HO52 Rear Disc Brake Conversion Accomplished By Anyone?
I did the lugnut 4x4 conversion on my 69 c20. Also an Eaton H052 rear end. Everything bolted together nicely and no problems with fitment for 16" wheels. I am also not running a parking brake. The only thing I needed to make the kit work was longer studs.
Every time I have sent Shawn @ lugnut 4x4 an email, he responded within minutes. I would reccomend him. Last edited by 5foot16; 05-13-2019 at 04:31 PM. |

I did the ruff stuff kit last fall. It was simple and easy to install. You do lose the e-brake, but if you want to spend the money they now sell a caliper that’ll work and has the e-brake, which I may end up adding on later. Only issue you’ll have is you’ll have to drill out the hub to do 9/16” studs. The studs they recommend in the kit worked perfect. I couldn’t find anyone that would drill them for me(I guess liability issue?) so I did it myself. If you do it yourself I used a 19/32” to drill it out and they seated good. The drilling was the only pain part of it. Only other issue I had was the brake line wouldn’t come apart, so I ended up replacing the hard line that runs across the axle to the drivers side.

5foot16, how did you connect the brake lines since the size is different from the original to the new caliper brake line? The rubber hose I got isn't nearly long enough to reach the junction by the differential. In your pics I see you didn't hook up the lines yet. Thanks.

Re: HO52 Rear Disc Brake Conversion Accomplished By Anyone?
USAF,
I cut the hard lines down to the inside of the u-bolts and put new nuts on and flared them. I went to my local Star Auto Parts store and they had brass adapters to connect the hard line to the new stainless hose. I don't remember the sizes off the top of my head, but I hope that helps. |
