Need help identifying what this switch does and mount ?

I need help where this switch goes and what does do? Also if its important?

It's a brake light switch. It is supposed to go on the brake pedal bracket under the dash. I have no idea what it's doing laying on your valve cover unless the PO used one for some other purpose.

That’s the transmission electric kick down switch for the turbo 400 behind your big block. I believe it attaches to the left rear carburetor stud. I’m guessing one of the guys here on the board with an original 68 to 70 396 turbo 400 could set you up with a picture of the proper mounting and the way the switch mates to the original quadrajet carburetor.

Yup, attaches at the left rear bolt. The lever on the throttle arm has a 90º bend that presses on the plunger (which is to the front). Can't see it in your picture, though.

Can't help, i'm just glad that i'm not the only one who looks in/around my truck and sees a bunch of wires/plugs that don't seem to go anywhere.

To me, it looks like a brake light switch (per post 2) that has been re-purposed as a kickdown switch.

The switch is up-side down in the pic.
I have it on my 68,C-10 with a turbo-400.
It mounts the same on my 327 and big blocks.Both engines use the quadrajet and it mounts on the left rear carb stud.

At first glance I thought it was an idle control bracket for the TCS solenoid but since the OP has failed to respond with more pics and explanation's, we can only speculate? Is that a single orange/red wire? Where does the wire(s) go? He appears to have a big block so is this in fact a repurposed brake light switch? "Pics and more info please?

I'm %100 sure it's not the brake light switch since my brake pedal already has one but I followed the wires it goes to the th400 transmission side if the pan.

I'm amusing it could be the kickdown switch because i notice when I give it the beans the trans doesn't downshift just stays a high gear

It's a 1970 c10 with 396 bbc with th400 transmission.

If it has 4 connectors on it, and a 4-connector jack, it is indeed the kick down switch. It doesn't actually look like the switch on my truck, though. That's why Rod'n'Rudy is calling it a stop light switch, because it doesn't look like the kick down switch.

The kick down switch would be "normally open" in electrical talk, and that doesn't work with the pictured switch, since the connection is made when the throttle is wide open, or nearly so, and the switch for the brake lights is "normally closed", but held open by the brake pedal return spring.

Bottom line, if that switch ain't connected, and doesn't have 4 blades, it ain't a kick down switch.

Maybe what FirstOwner69 has posted works, too, but it isn't what my setup looks like.
