Exhaust and 4 link
Searched a while, not really seeing anything...when running a triangulated 4 link on 47-52 trucks, looking for best ways to run exhaust...pics if you have any please.

The muffler shop I go to works on challenging stuff every day and I'd suggest finding out what muffler shop most of the hot rodders and street rodders in the area use. I worked in a muffler shop at one time and still hate doing exhaust work.

This is one reason why I prefer parallel 4-link over triangulated. Triangulated runs diagonally through those areas where you need the space, whereas parallel leaves it wide open. Not much help if you already have the triangulated, eh?

I havent bought yetbut everything i read says triangulated is better for street,
I guess its actually easier to dump the exhaust in front of rear wheels, |

been using a parallel 4-link for years on street. never had a problem... so much so I am using it again on my current build . plus the up side is you have more room for the exahust

Thats what i was initially gonna do, but kept seeing posts about how the triangulated was better riding and cornering as opposed to the parallel with bar...

I was concerned with the same exhaust problem. I really wanted the exhaust out the back, I had it before the axle for a few years and it just seemed too loud.
After way too much research I used a trailing arm suspension similar to this (mine has coilovers)http://nolimit.net/products#!/Rear-T...tegory=6257097 It rides really nice and plenty of room for exhaust. The other issue is, if you have an under bed gas tank then you may just want to stick with the triangulated 4 link and dump the exhaust ahead of the axle.

I installed some mini tubs to letme get a slightly wider tirei , and the no limit stuff actuall goes on the outsideof the frame, so , at least need a type that mounts under or inside the frame, also, yes, put the gas tank under the bed, but if it werent forthe andled upper arms, i would still have room for rear exhaust..

I have installed triangulated 4 bar setups in 4 streetrods now and find actually there is more room for exhaust and everything that way then with parallel 4 bars. primarily because there is no track bar or panhard rod in the way. I take the exhaust thru between the 4 link bars and up over the axle and since there is on leaf springs in the way you can go out under the frame rails and bypass the tank. plus the rearend stays in place and doesn't shift sideways on the panhard rod movement. They plant hard and no wheel hop.

I have installed and driven on no less than 6 triangulated setups. never had a problem getting exhaust even under very low trucks.

REALLY try hard to get the exhaust out the back. oxides of nitrogen and water in the exhaust tend to take the shine off stuff and leave a rusty finish. or, maybe that's the look you want...
still, nothing worse (in my opinion) than a loud cab. after a few hours you silently wonder if you're hurting your ears. then the ringing after getting out and the position of the stereo volume setting when you get back in confirms it. when I see a nice looking hotrod and then hear the thing start and it sounds like a grain truck with no muffler I always say, the guy shouldda spent less on the stereo and more on the exhaust. there is just something classy about a nice looking ride but a low, muffled rumble that says "yeah, I got the power but I'm not flaunting it". I know, I'm getting old. no need to tell me, lol. |

if you wouldda just bought a single, cheap,muffler you could spend more on pipe to get out the back, or maybe hang around the muffler shop and grab anything outta the scrap bin that looks like you could cobble it together to fit yours then spend the money you have on ear plugs and rust paint. lol.
