Hydro boost question
Many of us have a Mustang II style front suspension. I am one of those. I use a Saginaw style power steering pump and I have put a flow restricter on the pump, so that the steering isn't overboosted or "twitchy." In using this restricter, does that adversely affect a hydrobooster? If so, what's the work around for getting rid of overboosted steering? Thanks.

I looked for a while for a answer to this and never could find a answer...but I saw layout schematics showing one in place...just not a answer to your question...

I have a similar setup, but not a Mustang II frontend. I have a 79 pickup frontend. I have a Saginaw pump with flow restrictor and my Hydroboost brakes work well. I have had issues with a sticky front caliper, but I think my real problem there is a slight misalignment with the rotor, not a problem with the Hydroboost. Also, had to recently plumb in an adjustable proportioning valve, and replaced all the brake lines at the same time.
I found the restrictor a little too restrictive, and drilled the hole very slightly larger and liked it a lot better. |

Where is your restriction installed? The return fitting on the booster unit (the goofy 5/16-24*3/8 Barb) has an orifice also that some folks have increased to allow greater return flow.. I've got an HB setup feeding off of an 07 pump to a 72 steering gear, and it's definitely overboosted...tho I've kinda grown to like it.
