1972 k20
Hey guys,
I just picked up my first of the 67-72 series K20 trucks! I am very excited, this body style has been my dream truck. I have had a handful of C10's throughout my life but always wanted a 4WD. I'm looking for some information regarding a better riding suspension setup. I was curious if anyone has lengthened the front springs, if so how did you go about it? I would like to run approximately 4" of lift, crossover steering and will build a panhard bar for the front to improve handling response. The factory leaves ride like a tank, I would like something longer and maybe a leaf pack with more thinner leaf's as opposed to a couple thicker springs. Looking forward to building this truck! Can't wait to get the project started! Thanks!! |

Re: 1972 k20
Some guys use springs from square body truck up front as they are longer and requires relocating rear spring mounts. similar thing can be done to the rear springs. Check out ORD for info

Tuff Country is a highly regarded suspension lift kit manufacturer - specifically, their EZ-ride line. They come in 2"-6" lifts. I've read a lot of good things about ride quality from members with the EZ-ride kits. I personally have their 4" EZ-ride kit but I've yet to complete my truck enough to do a test drive.
You could also contact Deaver Springs Inc as they can make you custom springs better ride quality in mind. A set of good shocks (bilstein, fox, king) and quality tires can do wonders too. |

Re: 1972 k20
If you you are looking for something bolt on DIY4X has their B52 spring hangers. Never used them myself so I cannot comment. https://diy4x.com/product.php?produc...cat=250&page=1 Was thinking about using these brackets and having Deaver make me set of springs sometime in the future. ORD can help you out in the crossover steering. http://offroaddesign.com/catalog/Dan...ssoverKits.htm

Re: 1972 k20
Nice GMC. It looks higher than OE. The original springs would have been flat to negative arch and ride quite well. Aftermarket springs including the EZ Rides mentioned above are quite harsh in comparison.
I suspect you have a small lift (springs) already

Re: 1972 k20
My two cents....stick with factory length springs but contact a reputable custom spring company to make you some better suited springs. You don’t want to modify hangers and such on an original 4x4. That’s already a great looking truck and just a different tire and wheel configuration would do wonders. Maybe some better shocks could help you.

Re: 1972 k20
x2 ^^^! That is exactly how I feel. If you want all custom mounting for suspension you can build a 4wd from a way more common 2wd. Not worried about original? Why even start with a 67-72 K/20 chassis? We are fortunate to own 47-52 year old lower production factory 3/4t four wheel drives here. I have turned my thinking toward the long term view, both looking back and looking forward. I have a Dana 60 front end with TruTrac. I have HO52s with No-Spin. I have a 4spd set-up. Sometimes I'd rather have a utilitarian truck built just to my liking than a well optioned Sierra Wideside w/automatic trans. I figure I will "create" that truck and keep mine what it is.
