A/C suddenly lost its charge

The A/C on my Suburban suddenly quit working. I put the gauges on it and it had almost no charge. I recharged it and the charge seems to be holding just fine even after several days. I even used an electronic refrigerant gas detector and could not find anything. I'm pretty sure it was a very large leak for the system to suddenly go flat like that. What could be the cause of this?

Re: A/C suddenly lost its charge

You have a leak somewhere.
I'd look over the rear lines and the connections in those/to those for leaks. Then look over the connections, lines, and parts in the engine bay.

What refrigerant detector are you using?
Not all refrigerant detectors are created equal... You do get what you pay for. Decent units are pricey.
I scraped my pennies, nickels, and quarters together for a Robinair TIFZX Heated Pentode unit a couple years ago. Super sensitive. Worth every nickel.

If you aren't doing AC work for money and you need to be careful of cash take it to someone that has the tools to find the leak.
