1980 van column

I got a without key, auto, tilt, no air bag, steering column today at the junk yard that I believe was from a 1980 van. I hope I can use it on the 66 C10.
My question is, how does the park lever and/or steering wheel lock out work? Is it somehow tied to the brake pedal? Thanks.

Re: 1980 van column

No connection to the brake, just pull the lever toward the driver and it will unlock.

Ignition does the lockout for steering wheel, I cant remember but it might also do the auto lever lock.

Re: 1980 van column

I think Katrina/10 gave me the answer I was looking for.

There is no ignition switch in this column, which is why I got it. The ignition was in the dash panel of the van.

I had it my car overnight. Man, what a stink. It literally has cigarette tar all over the thing. I don't know if I will be able to clean it well enough to get that smell out of it but perhaps by next year when I plan to do the auto swap it will be OK. On the upside I tried turning the wheel this morning and it turns nicely.
