1966: Tow hook option V76 not available with chrome bumper?!

Interesting info so I brought it over here for those who dont FB.

When looking for tow hook location info Jon finds that the 1966 Data Book states "Not available with chrome bumper"

Anybody have an idea why it would conflict? Cutting the notch in the bumper was brought up which makes sense. Cutting after the chroming process would lead to rust/flaking.

Anyone out there have an original 63/64/65 with chrome bumpers and factory/dealer hooks?

My personal dilemma now iis if I should put the hooks on at all if it was never available for Z61/Z62 equipped trucks. I know I will use them as the burb is going back into service on the ranch along side the 41 9N but still torn.

I did a little more reading but nothing conclusive on why it mentions that in the 66 Data book. I was reading under K20s in the data book for 1966. K10s it does NOT say that and in the 65 data book there is NO mention at all. Personally , I would just install them. Cut your chrome bumper and put them in. The pictures I showed you of my 65K20, I cut the notches in THAT bumper to match the factory cuts, as my original bumper was cut but that bumper had things welded to it so I opted to change the bumper to clean it up.

I never knew the bumpers were cut for these--Can you guys post pics of the cuts?
I've got a pair of factory hooks for my '62 K10, and am unquestionably using them, and have no problem cutting the painted bumper, just didn't think that was how they did it.

Brad , not 100% this applies to the early frames like yours. Ive seen it now several times on "Factory ordered" trucks from 63-66. You can see theres a space problem with the 66 Suburban above . My 65 K20 was ordered with tow hooks and was notched .

Interesting! Thanks for taking the time to post the pics!!!
I don't know how mine will fit, but knowing they "didn't" original at least on the '63-'66 trucks, helps the thought/planning process.
