Original Seat Cover found on my seat?!

I think my seat still has the original seat cover under the previous owners seat cover redo. If I am wrong let me know. I hope it is.

I was taking pictures of the seat today for an upholsterer. I knew there were 3 covers on the seat...what I didn't realize until today is that the bottom one I think is original. I never really paid attention to the covers because it was torn and I knew I wanted to replace it.

I knew I had a deluxe seat because of the underside springs, but didn't realize the deluxe seats had cloth on them until I was reading another thread.

I haven't taken all the old re-covers off yet, but if the original looks as good as it does so far...I will keep it and use it. I just want to clean it and repair as much as possible. Not much damage to speak of...more dirty than anything.

Here are the pictures as it sat this morning and as I started slowly cutting off the top layers of covers. I am super excited!

Any thoughts on cleaning? dawn and warm water?

Dry cleaning solvent is really good on material, but not so good on the vinyl. I've never seen that pattern of material before.

Re: Original Seat Cover found on my seat?!

Thanks Chief! I was thinking the cloth would be more delicate than the vinyl...

I haven't either...I "assume" it is original. It is similar to others I have seen, but I haven't seen one exactly like it. I guess it could be the first recover done in the 70's or so, but if it is they took off the original. I am taking off the recovers now...so I will have more detailed pictures later tonight or tomorrow.

Oh I see now, that vinyl has the imprinted pattern on the center of the seat. Not OEM for our series trucks I would think.

Re: Original Seat Cover found on my seat?!

what year truck do you have? does it fold forward?

my 65 folds but somewhere around 67-8 or so safety laws eliminated that..

the pattern you uncovered looks identical to my factory 71 601 code black cloth trim..

hope that helps, good luck!

Thanks...I had seen that before when I was identifying the deluxe seat, but didn't realize it had the different seat covers on there. Great info!

Thanks! That's it! My truck is a 65. Someone must have swapped the seat out at some point? Mine does not fold forward...I want it to!

I knew someone would have the answers!

Re: Original Seat Cover found on my seat?!

my 71 longhorn had three build sheets!

one under seat, one in seat back and one in glove box

Thanks Chief..Now that you say that about the frame. I just noticed the seat tracks are definitely newer than ours! I bet the build sheet was taken out when they recovered it.

I agree...I don't think they are original to our series. Looks to be a 70's recover maybe.

Here are some pictures after I got 99% of the other covers off. I don't mind it though.
