Transmission crossmember removal
I have all the rivets out and can move it within the frame. However, that thing is really tight in there. Any tips on getting it out? While I doubt anyone really is in need of a 3 OTT crossmember, I’d like to know any tricks before either bashing the crap out of it or cutting it.
Which, makes me worry a bit about getting the auto trans crossmember in the frame and squared up.... |

Re: Transmission crossmember removal
UIt’s been 20 yrs. ago. But I think what I ended up doing was to remove the two short segments. On the end of the crossmember that are riveted to the top of the frame and the crossmember itself. Makes it easier to knock the whole member out. Like I said it’s been 20 yrs. And I now have CRS (Can’t Remember S—t) An afliction that comes with age. But it will put up a fight! Good Luck!

Re: Transmission crossmember removal
Once you get the rivets cut grab the big sledge and knock the hell out of it. It'll come out of there. Or just torch it out.

Re: Transmission crossmember removal
Once you get it out take a grinder to the corners of brace and round them off,it will slip in and out alot easier still tight but easier.
