Need a measurement off the bed / 55-59 stepside
Does anyone know the measurement between the outer lip to the outer lip of the step-side bed?
Having a TCI frame made and Running 11s with a 5" BS Just need to see how much to cut the rear end.

Re: Need a measurement off the bed / 55-59 stepside
easy way to measure the bed is 50 inches wide then simply measure one fender from lip to where it bolts to box times 2 plus50

try this, body and chassis dimensions for truck, but looks like 76" outside to outside of widest part of fender lip.
http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com...sto/58t004.htm may also be in here, if not it's just good to have for reference. should have a chassis drawing for a stock unit. https://www.trifive.com/55-59Assy.pdf |

You are probably going to have to go with Duramax55 suggested. Maybe someone can give the width though. GM herritage center archives just give the 50 inches inside and no outside measurements.

You're prolly gonna want the dimension from the inside of the rolled under lip of the fender, that's where the tires will rub.

Re: Need a measurement off the bed / 55-59 stepside
if you don't have a bed currently, and you will be doing a restomod truck, then why not build a bed and install a set of the old style fenders and steps on the sides? you will get what you want for floor, rails, fuel filler, tailgate etc. there are so many guys who spend a lot of time fixing an old bed that is rusty etc, then they mod the rails, tailgate, steps and install mini tubs for tire clearance. might as well have started from scratch or use a bed from a newer truck with a regular closing tailgate and steel floor.
just a thought. check ogre's or kim57's builds. those are nice looking beds, home built. not the only ones either, just a couple that come to mind right away. a fab shop could easily set you up with cut and bent panels, purchase a new front wall if you want the look, bed rails are easily fabbed at a metal shop, purchase the tailgate if you want the stock look, purchase the steps if you want that look or a good fitting set against the step side fenders, etc. the fleetside bed is also available new now as well, if you like that look. |
