Is it possible to rotate the LS water pump neck a little?
I want to twist it towards the drivers side about 1/2" so it is pointing more towards the radiator. Is it just a press fit? Am I asking for a future leak there?
Thanks |

I doubt you could get it out or make it turn without destroying it...
I thought I still had a old pump I could experiment with but I must have hauled it off...its not in my scrap pile anymore..

Re: Is it possible to rotate the LS water pump neck a little?
The following comes with a strong caveat....you may damage the pump to the point where it needs replacement...
It is possible to rotate the steel tube inside the aluminum housing. The steel tube uses a Loctite product to seal to the water pump body. You have to heat the aluminum housing with a propane torch then grip the tube and fully remove it from the housing. Do not heat directly on the tube. Do not just heat and turn...it will leak ! Clean the tube and hole up and use a Loctite sealer to fix the tube back in the pump housing. (The number escapes me right now) Strongly suggest you remove the pump to do this.... or Buy yourself a new car type water pump with the outlet facing straight ahead...

I think the loctite number is 290..(the green loctite)..we use it for bushing and bearing races..

Re: Is it possible to rotate the LS water pump neck a little?
Well I did find the old waterpump...
I applied the heat to it,, had the torch turned down low and wasnt having any luck..so I turned the heat up...after a minute or 2 it popped right out..but you can see where the torch almost melted (red circle) the aluminum housing..and it did split the housing (blue circle) so..if a man were real careful using a torch, it will come out...but you risk ruining it as well.. looking at it close I dont see any kind of sealant between the 2 surfaces..at least that are visible... But I would use the 290 loctite if I were doing this...but it does look doable.. but like aussie stated , I would think about a car style pump... I remember a while back someone removed the heater core fittings using heat.. , and drilled and tapped those to npt

Re: Is it possible to rotate the LS water pump neck a little?
I turned mine with a round wooden handle in the neck, light heat on the aluminum. Results may vary

Re: Is it possible to rotate the LS water pump neck a little?
Hi Greg,
The truck is a '68 with a '05 LM7 truck motor. The problem is the air intake tube hits the top radiator hose on its way to the filter box. My radiator has the inlet and outlet on the passenger side and the top hose is directly inline with the intake tube routing. I am trying to figure out a solution to this without a bunch of tube cuts and rubber couplings. Thanks, |

Re: Is it possible to rotate the LS water pump neck a little?
Wonder if you could switch water pumps. Either a gen 4 truck or a 10+ Camaro have different arrangements and might work. I think it might be a bolt on change, but I'm not 100 percent sure.
Trucks or the 10+ Camaro have the same belt offset. |

Re: Is it possible to rotate the LS water pump neck a little?
If it will solve my problem, I'll do it in a heartbeat. I need to find some folks running this setup to see how the hose is routed so I can determine if it will resolve my problem or not.

Re: Is it possible to rotate the LS water pump neck a little?
Is anyone familiar with this air intake tube? I might be able to use this, but I don't have a part number for it. This is what Zoomad75 is running.

That may be what I have to do as well. The tube he has looks to be all plastic, which is what i want. Do you have a p/n for this tube?

Re: Is it possible to rotate the LS water pump neck a little?
the aluminum tube I ordered off ebay...it was a 4in with 22deg bend....I ordered it long so I could cut it down to what I wanted...the rubber parts and filter came from spectre performance

Re: Is it possible to rotate the LS water pump neck a little?
I used a rad with outlets on the.passangers side. A k&n air intake tube for a 2005 truck and a 1996 jeep grand Cherokee 4.0 upper rad hose. No interference

I looked up that Jeep radiator hose you mentioned, I don't see how that hose works for you. If you have a pic of it installed, I would love to see it.
