Only good looking from 2 angles.

I have dumped a lot of time and money into my 62 step side and have realized that step sides are ugly. I even bought my truck because it was a step side. But they only look good from 3 angles. The 3/4 front view, the directly from the rear view and straight on from the front view, (which I don’t know if that even counts sense you can’t see the bed at all. It really pains me to say this but every time I see my truck from the side I get depressed. If anyone disagrees with me I understand. If you are a Fleetside owner out there and like step sides more p.m. me.

Re: Only good looking from 2 angles.

Grew up with stepsides, so I've got a fondness for them... but I have to agree that the 60-66 shorts look better as a fleet...
Just the way the bodylines flow..

Re: Only good looking from 2 angles.

I have had both, even both beds on my current truck. Step sides were more prevalent than the fleets, short or long. Most folks just wanted the basic needs to get the job done. I like both about the same I guess

Re: Only good looking from 2 angles.

You have a great looking truck from all sides.
But the paint is really new, so get yourself a short fleetside bed and paint it to match.
I mean, why not? If that's what you want, just do it.

Re: Only good looking from 2 angles.

I prefer step...and I prefer LWB. Both are more unique...you see fleet all the time and on new trucks as well. I like the curves of the fenders on the step also. The step side to me is better looking, but we each like different things and different vehicles.

I like your truck a lot...and if it were a fleetside...it would be a nice truck to me, but not capture my attention like it has. Love everything about your truck...color, wheels, and the fact it is a step side. Embrace being different with the step side.

Oh wait, I forgot..
I like this color better.
Go back to that and make it a 3/4 ton longbed 4x4.
I tease...
.
It is funny how our tastes can change.
When I originally bought my 65 in the early 80's, it was a long bed fleetside. And I thought nothing wrong of it. Then I started noticing stepsides, and thought I'd really like mine to be a short bed stepside. So when I totaled it in the 80's, I built it back up as a short bed stepside as it is still today.
But now, I'm thinking of putting it back to a long bed fleetside so it's more practical as a truck.
The bottom line is they all look good and have their are pluses and minuses.
I wonder whatever happened to member MisterC? He had a beautiful short bed fleetside bed and wanted to trade it for a nice stepside bed. I think he's in California somewhere.

Re: Only good looking from 2 angles.

My first thought is either lower the front an inch or two, or raise the back an inch or two. I think that might correct "the look" a bit. Can you photoshop that?

Re: Only good looking from 2 angles.

Yeah, the '63 Steppers are especially ugly. You ought to spare yourself the pain and send her up here to me .

All kidding aside, I like the uniqueness of the Step Sides.

When I got my Long Stepper, the plan was to make it a Fleet. After a while, the look of the fenders, the use of the steps kinda grew on me.

I had a 62 and 64 fleet side trucks before this one. No way I'd switch back.

If I had a paint job like yours on my '63 (maybe a red - black, red - cream), man I'd be in business. I think your truck looks pretty slick...everything is proportioned right and that paint, damn, that paint makes it pop!

It already has a pretty good rake. You just can't tell in that photo because it is on a slope

Re: Only good looking from 2 angles.

Fleetsides do have lines that flow from front to rear and I like them. But I also love the stepside "fat fender" look.

Put it this way forestb...I like your truck so much, I am most likely stealing your idea on the wheels with the push throughs on my step side!

Re: Only good looking from 2 angles.

I don't know how old you are Forrest, but in California in the 80's it was the Chevy stepside that was the most sought after. We loved them slammed with Tru-Spokes, and T/A white letter radials. I, on the other hand, drove a 6 cyl 1965 Mustang (not a chick magnet)....and I just knew if I just had me one of those stepsides..... seriously though, your truck is absolutely beautiful just as it is...from any angle.

Yep, mine was a long fleetside. There was hotrodded short step in town that I drooled over whenever I saw it. All white, rally wheels, bigger in the back and a rear up in the air. This was the early 80's. The kid who owned it wrecked it. I got the bed and it's on my 65 til this day.

Re: Only good looking from 2 angles.

Thats a good looking truck except the Caddy tail lights look out of place. A nice rear bumper and step side tail lights would do the trick. It's supposed to look like a truck, fleetsides are nice but step sides are cool work truck tough look
