Back again, this time with my dream truck. 1999 2 door 2wd Tahoe
I’ve had a couple 71/72 C-10s and 1990s GMT400 pickups but this weekend I just picked up this beauty queen.
She needs a few things, but not paint and body. I can replace bumpers and work on suspension and brakes and under the hood repairs but I can’t do bodywork and paint (not enough space or time or experience), so I’m stoked at how clean she is. Presenting my 1999 2wd, 2 door, 5.7 Tahoe! Day one of getting her into town included a sunset photo pic. Drove my car to Los Angeles to pick her up, so I rented a Uhaul tow dolly to bring my car back. Only used a quarter tank of gas (WTF?!) with cruise control at 55mph as much as possible. Day 2 included driving all the way back to LA for a used set of 2000 Tahoe Limited 16s. Day 3 was registration and new Goodyear 235/70/16s. She is bone stock and a great canvas. I’m never selling her. I’m in love and just wanted to share with you all. ❤️ I’m sure I’ll be on this forum more once again. Thank you all for the valuable info you share. Future plans: Mild drop. Polishing the headlights. Probably debadging and pulling off the flakey side molding. Maybe Texas style 20s in machined silver finish (I like stock rims but hate anything bigger than 20s on these). Double din stereo and subs ($140 for the unpainted dash bezel lol wth) New carpet. New headliner. General wear and tear replacements. |

Re: Back again, this time with my dream truck. 1999 2 door 2wd Tahoe
Thanks! I’m stoked. My factory radio had a few lights out and the common CD player not working, so I found an old (circa 2002) single din head unit in my garage box of old truck parts. That with an amazon echo going into the aux input (old stereo has usb and aux in but no Bluetooth) and I’m jamming and happy!
Also threw in an Optima yellow top. Wow, expensive but worth every penny. Fires right up strong every time! |

Thank you, I’ve been hunting for the perfect one for me for quite a while and just got lucky that I found it at the same time that I had something in my bank account. Lol

Re: Back again, this time with my dream truck. 1999 2 door 2wd Tahoe
Lol yep! Couldn't have said it better myself. Djm 2" drop spindles and 2" drop springs up front.
New control arms (uppers and lowers) while we are in there. A pitman arm and idler arm while we are in there (I have a little play in the steering), all new energy red bushings front and rear. New brake pads while we are in there. A new master cylinder while doing the brakes. And then a bellyech flipkit in the rear to complete the 4/6. And a remote start/alarm/phone tracking system coming up and new headlights and tails. So many projects. Time to stop spending and get to turning wrenches! |

That thing's neat. Good job grabbing such a straight clean one. Hopefully you can do a build thread. I'll stop in and check it out if you do. Look forward to seeing the new stance.

Re: Back again, this time with my dream truck. 1999 2 door 2wd Tahoe
Thank you, thank you. So excited to be here!
Finally finished the drop. Exhaust is next. Did a 4" front, 6" rear. 2" DJM DROP SPINDLES AND 2" DROP SPRINGS AND A BELLTECH FLIPKIT AND C-NOTCH IN THE REAR. ALL NEW BELLTECH STREET PERFORMANCE SHOCKS FRONT AND REAR. NEW UPPER AND LOWER CONTROL ARMS, ENERGY RED BUSHINGS EVERYWHERE. ALL NEW STEERING LINKAGE AND IDLER/PITMAN. NEW MASTER CYLINER, ROTORS, DRUMS, SHOES, PADS, REAR DRUM CYLINDERS. Now she finally looks perfect, rides amazing, steers like new, and stops like she should. I love this truck! Next is the exhaust shop for a shorter muffler (thinking a single Flowmaster 40 series) and a turn down or exit before the rear wheel since there is no longer room over the axle. Also looking at helper airbags for towing. Last edited by SlowYourRoll; 03-25-2021 at 10:44 PM. |

Re: Back again, this time with my dream truck. 1999 2 door 2wd Tahoe
And before anyone hates on my front turn signals, they were $17 on ebay and the only ones I could find that had what I wanted (smoked lens with an orange reflector strip to stay legal). The top and bottom had the reflector on opposite sides (manufacturing defect) but lol, I say screw it, just gives it more character.
I also grabbed some ebay halo headlamps with projectors and hate them. I hate how they look and they did nothing to make the road brighter and such a pita to adjust. They also mounted crooked af but I got a crazy discount, so now that she is dropped, I'm probably going to wire up the halos into a relay and see how close I can adjust the beams to what is safe for everyone. |
