5.3 engine, transmission, and transfercase Install into a 1971 k10
Good morning peeps, I see the 5.3 install with the 4l60e transmission, on the forum, what would be required to have the already mated transfer case installed also into my 71 K10? It is currently in a powder coated frame stage sitting in the garage getting ready for rebuild. Is this even possible i'm assuming I would need the front diff from a newer model silverado as well. This originally had a straight six, i already have the new 5.3 engine crossmember and engine mounts ordered from dirty dingo as I start the suspension building process
Any suggestions or insight please. I found a great deal on this into a 4x2 (w/o the xfer case) but not a 4x4 to have all three installed. maybe I'm looking in the wrong place? |

It’s not possible without a front axle swap, or a transfer case swap. Most late model guys who do the solid axle swap run a 77-79 Ford axle because it has the front drivers side drop for the the drive shaft. In my opinion your better off converting the 4l60e to mate to an np205. They are a far stronger case than the newer style magnesium shell chain driven cases, and the Ford front axles are also hard to find.

Most threads i read guys buy Ord or adavance adapters to use the np205 tcase
New tcase break easy compared to np205 When i get to that point it will be Ord adapter with 4l80e or nv4500 tranny Working on finding a d60 front diff for my 1 ton 4x4 project |

You could also use a np241 ( if you could find one )..from a 91 burb..they were mated to a 4l80 and are pass side drop..

I ditched my tired and leaking 307 / SM465 combo for the 5.3L / 4L60E with NP205. I used Advanced Adapters. You can check out my build thread, which has just been completed.
