Deluxe heater control assembly into the non deluxe dash question

Now that I am going to have the Vintage Air Sure Fit the assemly Im restoring looks like I need to bend the screw mount tabs and find the right screws and j clips to mount things up. Anyone able to tell me how they manage this? The install manual shows a jnut at the top of the assembly?

You need 2 #6 screws and U nuts bend the tabs so they are parallel with deluxe controls. The controls have a bracket that bolts to bottom side of the dash

It looked like the tabs should be bent, is there a trick to doing it to not have them misalign or wreck the dash? I was going to use vise grips and just clamp close to the dash and bend away. Ill look for the #6 u nuts and screws thanks!

Put some masking tape on the tabs and then use vise grips to bend them. Clamp the vise grips on about as far as you can.

Ive bent the tabs and tried the j clips and they end up shimming the unit down causing the unit no to fit so I just rested them on top and thread the screw through and got that worked out.
