58-59 hood rubber bumpers

I did a search, but only found the answer for the AD.
Does anyone have a diagram or can tell me the locations of the 8 rubber bumpers for the hood? Two are different from the other six?
Thx

Re: 58-59 hood rubber bumpers

there are a couple of bumpers at the rear that slip over a couple of bolts on the cowl at each rear corner of the hood. then a couple each side that push into the hood and I think I remember a couple at the front.

Re: 58-59 hood rubber bumpers

Ok, it must be the rear ones that have me confused. I found one on each side of the hood and four on the latch cover at the front. The hood has two holes at the front that are a little bigger. I wasn't sure if a couple bumpers went there. Anyone have a pic?

Re: 58-59 hood rubber bumpers

the cowl bolts are slotted on my truck, one on each side. there is also a rubber strip on the cowl. don't remember how many are on the hood each side. if I remember I'll check tomorrow when I get home from work. 24 hr shifts suck.

Re: 58-59 hood rubber bumpers

by the assembly manual it looks like 3 per side on the hood. one fairly far forward, one in the middle and one close to the rear. sheet 14, section 11. then one on each side across the front.
the cowl bumper top should be 1/8" below the height of the cowl.
so I count 3 on each side of the hood, 2 across the front and then the 2 attached to the cowl. does that leave you with left overs?

I'll be in the shop tomorrow. The hood only had one hole on each side just forward of middle.

Re: 58-59 hood rubber bumpers

I just checked my hood. 3 holes down each side of the hood. cab has the flat head slotted bolts on the cowl for the 2 rubbers to be attached to there. my grille is in storage so no chance to check that. it looks like there are rubbers across that too, by the assembly manual. as well, the hood brace has some rubber "anti squeak" strip between the hood and the brace.

Re: 58-59 hood rubber bumpers

I think I have most of it figured out. The back two adjustable rubber bumpers are on a threaded screw, but do the holes have nuts? Anyone have any pics of the cowl to hood rubber bumpers?

the two adjustable studs on the cowl have a fender washer under them, a lock nut, then the head of the bolt. the bolt head is large around but has a thin top to bottom dimension and also has a slotted screwdriver style top.

Re: 58-59 hood rubber bumpers

I never checked on that availability aspect but I did have another cowl. I checked and it is gone to the scrap with other junk. sorry, I could have sent them to you otherwise. possibly you could make a set from modified carriage bolts or possibly a thick washer or a piece of steel the correct dimension threaded onto that and/or welded on top of a threaded rod and then cut a slot or something. they are pretty simple. you just need something with the right thread and the correct length and then have the right size top to fit the rubber. the other alternative would be to check the geno site or the local parts or junk yard for a hood adjuster/bumper from a slightly newer car, say the 60's or 70's, that used that style of adjuster at the forward end of the hood opening on the car. they adjusted the same, had rubbers that look the same and were about the same size bolt if memory serves me correctly
try this site for a pic and pricing. they are called
