Wiper Mount Question
Just about to mount the air delete panel and are a little confused
Does the rubber gasket go between the chrome bezel and panel (pic 1) or Does the rubber gasket go inside the cab leaving the bezel to mount to the paint (pic 2) ============ The reason I ask is if you do it like in Pic1 there is nothing to stop the rain coming in between the cab and air delete panel then running inside the cab but if you do it like Pic2 the rubber gasket will stop the water getting in the cab and therefor run into the water/air channel but the bezel has nothing on the air delete panel.... WHICH IS THE RIGHT WAY |

Re: Wiper Mount Question
gasket goes inside the cab (pic2) ...
https://www.trifive.com/d1/55-59Assy.pdf section 1, sheet 53 (pag 108 in the pdf) I bought a sheet of rubber (1mm thick) to make some gaskets where I believe there should be to avoid scratching the paint, like where the hood/door hinge mount to the cab...

Re: Wiper Mount Question
I have mine installed like pic 1 to prevent direct contact between the bezel and a painted surface. It’s been in the rain and washed numerous times without any trace of a leak.

Re: Wiper Mount Question
Thanks for the install manual that will help with my other question regarding the cross frames and thanks for the opinions on which side it mounts but you both answered differently... lol
classic parts (67-513) is listed as "Wiper to Cowl Bezel Gaskets for Chevy Truck - gasket between cowl and chrome bezels" classic industries (cx-1374) is listed as "Windshield wiper tower gasket - gasket between the cowel and tower base" I haven't checked the other suppliers but to me mounting to the inside makes more sence. I might just make a paper gasket up for the outside where it mounts to the cowl as I dont like metal on paint.... Q |

Re: Wiper Mount Question
i'd say on top to protect paint. oem had nothing as:
1) it's a truck who cares about paint 2) oem louvered panel had a small drain hole beneath the wiper bezel that said, i'd caulk ever edge of the cowl vent delete panel to keep water out truk cowl vent panel is welded in

Re: Wiper Mount Question
Ogre
The air delete panel I have has a small drain hole in it. I have sealed the inside front edge of the cowl panel where it runs out towards the engine bay and liberally sprayed the inside as well. The classic parts rubber gaskets I have are probably meant for the outside but they appear to partially cover the drain hole when fitted. They will fit inside the cowl, however, not well. The classic industries ones look more suited to the inside shape of the wiper pivot that protrudes the cowl. I think I will just eurothane the inside of the wiper pivot to ensure a good seal and then make a paper gasket for the outside of the air delete panel to the chrome cover. |

Re: Wiper Mount Question
i'd definitely seal off the drain hole, you'll want to keep the cowl dry, since your not using the kick vents
allows you to recess the kick speakers, i cut out the whole area around the vent with a plasma cutter if you do that hang on to everything and pass it on to a restorer, a lot of that stuff isn't in the catalogs i gave away the doors, grills and cables, but scrapped the sheet metal i cut out, it isn't available anywhere if you still have the kick vents, remove the grill and door, reach your hand in above the rain baffle mine was full of pine needles, leaves and dirt. probably half a 5 gal bucket from both sides that gunk is what rusts out the door hinge pockets and leaks from above rust out the floors the cowl vent is probably the most destructive thing on our trucks not the best pics, but you can see how much vent i cut out

Re: Wiper Mount Question
Thanks Ogre
I removed the trap doors and checked for crap when I remade the lower side drain pocket. The lower pocket was blocked and rusted but up by the vent it was clean as. I sprayed up into the pocket and down from the cowl before remaking the lower drain area .... so it's all painted now in there. I then refitted the trap door and sealed it to the kick panel. Hope that makes sense. I'm not worried about water getting into the old vent area just the cab Thanjs for the help Q |

Re: Wiper Mount Question
check in here. it's a good one to download and keep on a memory stick or whatever.
https://www.trifive.com/d1/55-59Assy.pdf some other general info on here as well http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com...esto/index.htm personally I would use a gasket on the inside to seal any water out and a thin one under the outer chrome part to protect the paint. mine both had one under that part from factory, can't say about the other part on the inside but it just makes sense. |
