How to ship HO52 third member - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Does anyone have any experience shipping an HO52 third member? I’ve read online about people shipping third members in plastic bags surrounded by spray foam in 5 gallon buckets but not specifically an HO52 and didn’t know if it would fit. I also question if the bucket would be strong enough to not crack open. Also wonder what the weight is and which carrier would be best. I’m trying to figure this out from the receiving end. Any thoughts or other ideas greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I shipped a radiator core support for a '69 Skylark in a reinforced card board box via Greyhound. They were pretty cheap, but it took awhile. The buyer wasn't in a hurry, so it worked out. I don't think that the punkin will fit in a 5 gallon bucket. If you make a solid wood sided crate and fill it with foam to surround the punkin, it should ship OK. The foam will keep the sides from caving in. Loaders tend to handle heavy stuff pretty badly, in my experience.

I received some heavy oily items that were shipped in a heavy plastic bag inside one of those better plastic totes that wallymart sells..it was foamed around it... shipped thru Fastenal...on a small pallet

I shipped a continental block via ups. I built a crate for it.

I just purchased an HO32 third member that I had shipped to Canada. It was inside a plastic bag, inside a milk crate, inside a cardboard box the same size as the milk crate. The cardboard box had many layers of plastic wrap around it. The third member was padded inside the milk crate with carpet and and underlay scraps, and then all the padding was tied down to the milk crate with twine. Arrived in great shape! I will see if I can attach some pictures.

I have shipped Heavy parts and I always build a solid crate some times to be moved with a fork lift or good cut outs for handles even bolting it to a pallet . I like vetnat post about the milk crate that is good way to protect what is being shipped .

^ That's an excellent way to ship it! The milk crate could take more abuse without breaking like wood would. I'll have to remember that.
