Front end wheel placement
I was noticing the front end of my lowered 74 the other day that the driver side wheel is about 1.5"- 2" further in the wheel well than the passenger side. Alignment is good, drives straight down the road. I've had it lowered about two years now using Bell tech 3" spindle with 2" coils. Front end fully rebuilt. No driving issues just visually bothers me now. Can this be corrected? Is this "normal"? thanks.

Do some more investigating to see where the discrepancy lies. Are the frame rails both equidistant from the fender openings? Are the control arms different lengths? Are the body mounts tweaked or modified in any way? Are there any spacers or size differences in the spindles/brakes/wheels?
I've heard of axles being displaced to the side from the factory, so it does happen.

When I bought the truck the frame did have a hairline crack near the steering box mount that I had repaired by reputable auto body shop and the checked to make sure the frame was/is square...all good there. Check the gap between the front fender and bumper on each side and compare.
If the cab is not straight on the rails then the hood shoots off to one side. In order to set the hood to fender gap the fenders get pushed off to that side as well. The bumper, which is attached to the frame, stays right where it is, making it a good measuring device. The number of people that have had this issue is probably pretty close to 15 million (give or take a few). K

The front bumper gap on the passenger side is about .5" as apposed to the Driver side which is about maybe .25" if that...Hmm you might be on to something here.
***EDIT*** Hold up I just reread your post, you mean the gap from the side of the bumper and fender, the measurement I took was from the front of the bumper . I'll look into that as soon as i'm off work today. Last edited by Robzkombi; 02-11-2021 at 02:29 PM. Reason: Misread post |
