Paint roof or not
I called my local glass shop on a whim to check on a windshield for my 72. I was surprised when I was asked questions about tint and installation. They looked it up and quoted me $110, cash and carry.
Now since the truck originally had a white roof and is peeling off around the weatherstrip...looks to be a really thin coat of lacquer. Should I sand, fill the imperfections, prime and paint it white again...and do the gutter. Sounds like alot to replace the window, what would you do? Tom

Re: Paint roof or not
There really is no better time to paint the roof than when the windshield is out, methinks. I cleaned up some rust and repainted the roof on my truck before the cabover camper shell was installed. I took the windshield out and cleaned and painted all around. It isn't true to stock, because I didn't paint the section below the windshield back to orange, I painted it white. If I ever get around to repainting the truck, I'll do it then. In my case, the back window is out as well, as a pass-through into the shell.

Re: Paint roof or not
It's slightly easier with the glass out but then your dealing with the rear glass, door jamb rubbers it starts to get involved. If the cutter is in need of work then I would do it.
But it's much easier to just sand the windshield opening and pillers and repaint green

Re: Paint roof or not
The gutters look pretty good. I just need to face it, its not really time to restore it, I use the crap outta it. If it gets to looking too good, someone will run off with it.
BTW, I think the glass is a hellva deal so far. I pick it up tomorrow, we’ll see what brand. Got a precision gasket on the way too.

Re: Paint roof or not
I would paint it. So if you ever restore it there is something to restore.
Many a C10 has been junked because of this exact reason. Besides it would look better as a two tone and you all ready have the divider. BTW have you seen the seam sealer that you pore in? Self leveling. Cool stuff. |
