Maybe I havent been in tune with prices but it looks like these truck prices are going up in value.

Re: Truck Prices are going up?
I've definitely seen an increase in the value of non-running project trucks. Lots of $900 ones going for $3500.

Yup. Especially the straight and rust-free ones.

Re: Truck Prices are going up?
When I bought my first 67-72 29 years ago, I paid $250 for it, and it was running with a good engine. There were lots of small parts on it that I simply didn't have to worry about since they weren't worn out. Our trucks are getting pretty old now, so almost every part has to be reconditioned or replaced when doing a restoration or rehabilitation. It makes sense that our trucks, when restored, demand a higher price nowadays because of this. I don't understand why old rusted out and neglected beaters seem to be commanding high prices though. On the other hand, I see the same old junkers listed for sale month after month, so maybe these highly priced listings aren't reality.

Re: Truck Prices are going up?
When have the prices not been going up on these trucks in any shape or form? My '72 was still valued at the '11 amount when I started the policy. This renewal go 'round I had them double that figure, which is very realistic... today.

Re: Truck Prices are going up?
Agreed but it seems they are ramping up a little faster ... like a jump vs a linear movememnt.

Re: Truck Prices are going up?
I had been seeing the prices go up about 2 years or so here in Texas. There still are a "few" deals on occasion. I see lots of trucks with no motor or transmission going for $4,000, $5,000, or $6,000 plus. This is not a joke. I bought my 1968 C20 in October 2020 for $3,500 and it was a registered, running, and driving truck. I knew I couldn't let it pass me up at that price.
If I could, I would be rounding up all of these $1,000 trucks out of state and make a killing selling for $5,000+ here in Texas. I also heard that people from out of country are buying these trucks and parts and sending them overseas to make a huge profit... |

Re: Truck Prices are going up?
29 years ago, I paid $2200 for my 70 LWB.
It was and still is mostly original with VERY little rust. I’ve had honest offers of $18-20k on it, and told these guys they were stupid. This truck is going to my son, so no matter the offer, it’ll not leave the family. I think the money that these older vehicles are bringing is absolutely absurd, and because they’re so outrageous, it’ll keep them out of reach of next generation of truck enthusiasts. What happened? |

Re: Truck Prices are going up?
Heck I don't know, when you blow near 2K just for a new evap. & condenser, rebuilt POA & Expansion valves, hoses and dryer, seems to me everything is going up. Sure, "I can probably restore this truck for 18K" That might get you paint.
If I were to guess a running 67-72 runs anywhere 4-100K, with fair "restorations" or low miles in the neighborhood of 25-40K. Having said that, I get Craiglist hits and geezuz the stuff that comes up. Most recently a modified (cough!) 67-72 4WD with dents for 30K.

Re: Truck Prices are going up?
I bought my '71 lwb running and driving about 5 years ago for $3600 (I thought that was bargain). It had rust of course. Now that I have fixed all the rust (for the time being), painted it, rebuilt the suspension, new interior, and dropped in an LS my cost is up there. Would have to sell for $25k plus just to get the money back out of it. Oh well, guess I will have to keep it for awhile.

There's a story to that purchase I won't admit to. Not that I did something wrong, but I can say my fill-in bought it for $3000 Let's just say the former owner and I didn't take some reason, and the truck would pop up for sale every now & again. I told my friend Alice in Wonderland about it, and she volunteered to handle the situation and wouldn't let that one go. Whoops, I just admitted to some She only looks like Alice, probably prettier, and she can talk paint off Wasn't even 5 minutes I got a call "Tony I got it for $3". She was in just to chalk one up and didn't want money for it, but a deal's a deal.

I used to watch Barrett-Jackson and Mecum, to see the nice vehicles. Then I began to realize that these guys paying these crazy prices were buying them because their “Latest Wife” thought the color matched her favorite purse. The problem comes when everybody think their Rusted out heap that’s been sittin in the tree line, is cherry, and Rare. |

Re: Truck Prices are going up?
I am recently in the middle of an ebay experiment with my dad's mint 2002 Z28 low mileage car. At the end of the day he doesn't want nor care to get top dollar from it.
On ebay even these cars are "priced" at $18k+. I have reduced the price considerably as the time is nearing it's end and I am well below the average listing price. No good offers and no real activity. The classis car dealers are trying to manipulate the market by asking obscene values for vehicles. In the end I think they are trading for far less or not at all. Plus there has been stuff online for sale for a couple years now (like all the blazers for sale for $50k) that hasn't moved. I'm sure there are exceptions to this and nice desirable items always bring the bucks. But for the most part I think the whole thing is a hoax.

While I'm not convinced it's all a hoax, we do have a lot of sharks and misinformed folk attempting to sell these trucks for stupid money. My truck must be worth around 50k now based on the prices I see out there Case in point: https://www.ebay.com/itm/30401571455...%7C1000%7C2500 Another ( this one was notorious for overpricing their units...now they have reserve auctions with bidding starting low. I suspect they have equally too large reserves set on them ): https://www.ebay.com/itm/16491260261...YAAOSwCGJgvDdB -klb

Re: Truck Prices are going up?
I saw a really ugly square-body Blazer go for $75K on Mecum. It pretty much had every bolt-on geegaw there is and someone had to have it. You never can tell.

Re: Truck Prices are going up?
2018 paid 5k for the 72. Everything worked on the truck brakes were all done prior to my ownership, I just put a new dash pad ,seat cover and a mint take off gate I bought from a board member. Transmisson went 20k miles later but that's about it . I've turned down more than double for it from a couple of friends since I bought it. Shes insured for 20k

Re: Truck Prices are going up?
I got my truck last year off craigslist from the town next to me for 16k. The seller hardly drove her in the 5 years he had her and she was garage kept even before he got her. Externally, she looked great with a nice trim level but was very leaky and ran rough. We are all pretty sure the odometer hadn't been roll over and was sitting at ~94k when I got her. When I picked her up last week after having the drive shaft, rear end inspected and the cover seal replaced, 30k was bounced at me for a interested buyer. I didn't even think twice passing on the offer. Having way to much fun!
I have done TONS of stuff to her and except for the engine rebuild, transmission, and 134r AC convert - most of other things I have done she technically didn't need them. Then there are the odd things things that have been annoying re-dos. But for the most part, the insides are now far better than how she looks! For the record, not long ago the $$$ I have spent reached what I paid for her. Putting in a tilt column, side mount spares with OEM locks, complete frontend (because might as well) and etc. adds up! LOL

Re: Truck Prices are going up?
Well, that's not so bad if your starting price was 1k ;-)
The good news for me, the drive shaft / rear end was the last major bit that hadn't been looked at by someone. I was pleasantly surprised that past the transmission everything was in perfect order, well other than the little rear end drip but that is now gone. Actually, me getting tint on her last week was a major milestone. Getting tint is so "icing on the cake" throwing $$$ at that made me feel really good! But I am glad I got it before my long trip because it ended up being HOT! LOL

Re: Truck Prices are going up?
I know blue book values are not the way to go for truck prices but, I own a 1970 C/10 Longbed fleetside without power steering and without air. Back when I got mine in 2008 the high retail N.A.D.A. blue book said it was worth about $30,000 now they say it's worth $77,000 without air mind you. So maybe they're going up.

If someone offered me half that much for my '71 Custom Deluxe they'd have bought themselves a truck.
