1965 c10 sleeper

Has anyone built a sleeper 64-66 c10? I am thinking about a field fresh swb with skinny tires then a 454 under the hood.

Re: 1965 c10 sleeper

I kind of went that route, but I kept my original 283 engine. I gave it the usual goodies to wake it up including 416 heads from a 305 and focused on improving its street torque, I also added a Muncie 4 speed and kept the exhaust note very subdued. The interior looks like a hot rod while the exterior looks mostly stock. Some regard a 283 as weak, but mine is plenty enough for me and the 15 mpgs are pretty decent. It's a blast to bang it thru the gears at wide open too.

I am a big sleeper fan however the benchmark of 'fast' has been raised a lot in the last 10 years. It better be a pretty stout 454 to keep up in the day and age of ls turbos being swapped into everything under the sun.

I went with 462 ci of Pontiac that made 528 bhp before 5K RPM and 500 ft-lb off idle on 87 octane.

My truck has been a blast. Fun to drive hard, a pleasure to drive gently, and I drive it all over the place too.

If you want to know anything else about it just just ask.

Go to youtube and type in 9000 rpm 283 launch and you can see how weak they are
