Camaro Power brake booster

I have been going through parts to sell my 68 Camaro. I own a stock 62 C10 that for right now is going to pretty much stay stock. I was thinking of trying to find a 63 to modify because the 62 is very much intact. But, not sure I would be able to do that. So, If I decide to upgrade/modify, one of the things I would like to do is add power brakes. I would probably get one of CaptFabs brackets because I would always want to keep my manual transmission. As I was going through my car parts, I have a power brake booster for the Camaro. Would that booster work for the truck if I decide to to go that route in the future. I see a lot of guys using later C10 or S10 boosters when converting. Just didn't know if a different GM car booster would work.
Thanks,
Rob

Re: Camaro Power brake booster

Hey Rob,

I just completed a power disc brake swap in my manual '62 C10 a couple years back. The most important booster dimensions you'll want to be wary of are as follows:

-Stud pattern - I believe there's two stud patterns GM used from the '60s to the '90s. IIRC one is square and one rectangular by 1/4". This info is detailed in another thread somewhere.
-Clutch master clearance (if applicable) - If you've got a manual truck with a hydraulic clutch, you're going to want to keep your booster around 10" or under IIRC. I used an Astro Van booster (ACDelco PN 14PB4277) due to its unique shape - smaller diameter but thick.

Re: Camaro Power brake booster

Thanks Bob,
I have been emailing with CaptFab and it has been very helpful. I looked at the back of the booster and it definitely won't work with the truck. So, it will be sold with the car. I do plan to keep my manual transmission no matter how I end up modifying the truck.

I have read a lot of people like you are using GM parts to make these changes and not always going with kits from different vendors. I think I would like to probably do the same.

Thanks,
Rob

Rob,
I used Everything GM for my Disc conversion on my 64 including all the hard brake lines and the proportioning valve but I did have to make a bracket to support the proportioning valve - it looks 100% factory

That looks great. What model and year booster did you use?

Re: Camaro Power brake booster

No problem! One thing I should've mentioned is that I used CaptainFab's kit on my '62. Had to ditch that deathtrap single-bowl reservoir. The clutch master was tight to my driver's fender and the firewall electrical plug, but it works great. I've put 15k on my truck since then and I love it.

Re: Camaro Power brake booster

That is great. I now see see all those parts after you mentioned them. I was going to try and scavenge a camaro brake booster so I am right there with you as far as using what you got. I called a junk yard the other day and just ask general questions. The guy asked what I needed. I said I really wasn't sure till I am able to walk around and see what I can piece together. Yours looks very clean and I would never guess that many items came from junk yards. It looks great. I just need to go by this one yard and start looking around and see what I can get.
