292 oil pan removal

I finally got the 292 installed in my C20 absolutely love the way this thing runs , unfortunately I have some oil leaks. The oil pan needs to come back off. Hopefully its just the pan and not the rear main seal.
With that being said can the oil pan on a 292 be removed with the engine in the truck?. I'd really rather not pull the engine back out if I can avoid it.

I've done it but it's a pain in the ***.
You will need a short wood block cut from a 2x4 to lift the pan w/o denting it.
Loosen the drivers side motor mount and disconnect the passenger side mount, so you can swing the block right to get clearance. Or disconnect both, but it's harder to find ''home'' if you do.
Remember to re-connect and tighten your motor mounts after R & R of the oil pan.
I don't recall if I had to remove the lower radiator hose. Don't disconnect anything you don't have to, [obviously].

About 25 years ago, I was out in the boonies in AZ goofing with my buddy. The oil pan struck a sharp rock, and I was hemmorhaging 30 weight. My buddy had to walk back into town, and find my other friend who came out with 5 quarts of oil and JB Weld. Believe it or not that held. But a few months later I had to change oil. The drain plug was also goobered with the epoxy.
So I had to replace the pan with a new one. The ripped one I left with a pal at a radiator shop. He was going to patch it for me for free on his own time. He got fired before he got around to it, and the new guy just threw the punctured pan out, not knowing its history.

Well pulling the pan turned out to not be as difficult as I was imagining. However I found a hole in the pan up by the rail. No wonder I had oil all over. Good thing I have a spare 292 to steal parts off of.
Although I still have a little leak at the front of the pan it's small enough I think I can live with it. At least for now.
So it's good to be back up and running. Now time to finish my break in. I'm really looking forward to driving this thing. I've wanted a 292 in a truck for about 30 years. I bought the engine two years ago & it's had to wait while I worked on more pressing matters. I'm ready!

Good to hear you're back on the road. A welder can fix your old pan. Just don't leave it at a bad shop.
