concrete sealers
Anyone have any suggestions or experience with any of the new concrete sealers on the market today? I have just had a new floor finished, and would like to apply a coating before we move forward with the rest of the framing. Thanks in Advance, Mike

Re: concrete sealers
I used Cure and Seal. I think there is a number after it but don"t remember it. It came in a blue I think 4 gallon can, used almost all of it on a 30x40 using a paint roller.

Re: concrete sealers
New concrete should cure at least 30 days before a sealer is applied As far as sealers go single component moisture cured clear is very popular and very durable. Top coated with a two-part polyester, is your most durable and expensive floor system. Then comes the epoxy from the big box stores cheaper but not as durable

Re: concrete sealers
I'm not an expert but have been told by many people that do concrete that for a sealer to last there needs to be a vapor barrier under the concrete. If not it will flake off over time. I used a cure and seal on my garage floors just after they were poured. I would use an etch on cured concrete before using any product on it. Again I'm not an expert but have built several garages.

Re: concrete sealers
Just curious, is sealing concrete just to make it resistant to oil or is there another advantage? The concrete in my garage is insulated with a vapor barrier and was done about a year ago.

Re: concrete sealers
Home Depot product called Behr concrete , masonry sealer
I've used it on the concrete around my swimming pool for years , doesn't peel , beads water , holds up decent even with the chlorine water that gets on it. Doesn't break the bank either Is there home Depot's in the USA ???? |

Re: concrete sealers
I used Euclid Diamond hard on my shop floor. It is a sealer and densifier. Been three years and happy with it. I do a lot of fabrication work and the surface is tough. Just added 500 square feet for a machine shop and used it this time also.

Re: concrete sealers
I was always told to prep(power wash) and apply bonding compound("concrete bonding adhesive") before laying any masonry products on existing concrete.
There might be stuff built into the coatings that provides the same function, but I think I'd put the extra steps in before I layed that stuff down. Last edited by Rust_never_sleeps; 08-13-2023 at 04:20 PM. |
