Survivor 1987 V30 Silverado SRW 454/400

This is a truck that I have been after for about 5 years. I finally got it bought from a good friend of mine. (Joesjunk) I’m really glad we got a deal put together on it. It’s a 1987 V30 Silverado SRW that came from out west. Sold new in Colorado then spent a good chunk of its life in Wyoming with a slide in camper in it. It is completely rust free and is still wearing 95% of it’s original Indian Bronze paint as well as maintaining an all original interior other than headliner material. Truck still has the original 454/400/205 combo in it. The this is truly a time capsule and I’m glad to be a steward for this truck for a while. Here’s some pictures.

Re: Survivor 1987 V30 Silverado SRW 454/400

Were the tailgate lights a factory option, dealer option, or aftermarket?

That is a beautiful truck! I'm aiming for a very similar-appearing rig with the project truck in my signature. I want it to look stock, inside and out, with an updated drivetrain.

They were a factory installed option on 1 ton trucks. Looks like you have a great project there!

Beautiful truck... I'm jealous of all your trucks, all are money in the bank and better than a 401k IMO

Part of RPO U01.

They were required on trucks wider than 80", and available as a free flow option on any truck.

Keith, what’s strange is I know of several 86 and 87 SRW 4x4 trucks that do not list option code U01. This truck being one of them.

I found a neat looking saddle blanket on Amazon that actually matches the mahogany interior really good!

Re: Survivor 1987 V30 Silverado SRW 454/400

I got the 2.5” sky jacker lift on the truck. It got a temporary wheel upgrade until I get the 7” wheels powder coated and a new set of 285/75 Cooper discoverer ATs bought. I also bought a igloo armrest cooler that I think fits the truck very well.

Lift looks great. What did you use for shocks? I've never had a skyjacker lift so interested in the ride.

I have put skyjacker 2.5” lifts on 3 of my squares and my 71 K20. I have had a good experience with them. When I first got into all this I ordered a 4” rough country lift for a 1987 V30 Crew cab SRW and hated it so much that within a week I pulled it off and put a skyjacker on it and have never looked back. I used skyjackers “hydro” series shocks on this one.

Re: Survivor 1987 V30 Silverado SRW 454/400

Back on the steel wheels again. This time with cooper discoverer 285/75/r16 tires. Took the truck for a 100 mile round trip today to deliver some wheels and tires and picked up another set of 16x7 steel wheels. Was a good cruise, the old 454 never skipped a beat and the ole Delco cassette player was crankin out some country gold!

I am not a huge fan of brown but that truck wears it well. I'd roll thar truck any day. I do love the 87s as well. That year is unique in itself. And I love it on the steelies and caps.
